2011-12-19 09:39:36

Anna Hazare, the anti-corruption crusader and the man of the year, was in Chennai on Sunday (Dec 14) for a public meeting.
During his visit to the city Anna found time to watch the Hindi version of Mudhalvar Mahatma titled Welcome Back Gandhi directed by Balakrishnan.
He visited Four Frames theatre to watch the special preview.
The film is a fictious account about what will happen if Mahatma Gandhi becomes the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.

Dhanush to direct a thriller
The National Award-winner throws some light on his B-Town plans
Lata Srinivasan
While he is busy acting in Kollywood, this National Award-winner also has Bollywood dreams — that of making it big as a director in Mumbai. There have been reports that he has signed on Abhishek Bachchan and Hrithik Roshan. When quizzed about whether he had really signed one of them on, Dhanush laughs and says, “No, these are all just rumours.” But, he does have plans to take to direction next year and is likely to start filming in the second half of 2012. Ask Dhanush when he decided he wanted to direct, and he says, “My passion was to always be a director, not an actor.” As for the script of his first directorial venture, he has it ready. “It will be a thriller,” he says, refusing to divulge more.
The actor, who has won critical acclaim for acting and now gained global popularity for his singing, says he started writing scripts when he around 17 years of age. So far, he has put together more than 15 scripts, he says.
Looks like the hunt is on to get the right Bollywood actor for his thriller and with his frequent trips to Mumbai, the actor is likely to set up a second home there shortly.

K-TOWN GOES TO EUROPE
New Tamil films are now exploring little known exotic locations across Europe
Shankaran Malini
Kollywood’s going places. Quite literally! A whole host of new films are exploring some of the most exotic locales in Europe and middle-east Asia. The latest being the team of Udayanidhi Stalin-Hansika starrer, Oru Kal Oru Kannadi which has just left to shoot in Jordan. Director K V Anand, who loves shooting at new locations, recently shot around Russia for his current Suriyastarrer Maatraan. He says, “This time, we shot scenes, in three countries near Russia — Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. When it comes to shooting abroad, Europe is the costliest. Shooting at landmark locations of historical importance or tourist interest only ups the costs.”
Chakri Toleti’s Ajithstarrer has just finished a 25-day schedule in Georgia. Sunir Kheterpal, producer, says, “We shot both songs and scenes in Georgia. We mainly shot in three main locations there, which are Tbilisi, Borjomi and Rustavi.”
And it seems Georgia has sparked interest in other film crews as well. Actor Jiiva says, “Neethaane En Ponvasantham requires a 40-day schedule abroad. Since Ajith’s new film shot in Georgia, we are waiting for their their experience and feedback, to see if we will consider it as an option for our film’s shooting schedule as well.”
Director Suseendran explored locales of Italy for his upcoming Vikram-starrer. The director, who shot two songs there, says, “The best part about shooting in Italy was its natural lighting. We had uniform sunlight from almost morning till night, ensuring that we didn’t need to worry much. We ended up finishing two songs in nine days there.”
Another film, Mirattal, began with a London schedule. Vinay Rai, who has mostly shot his films abroad, says, “The team shot in Eastbourne near Brighton, Bath, Richmond, Windsor, Oxfordshire and Surrey for the songs. Eastbourne was incredibly beautiful with white cliffs and beaches.”
The crew of Viswaroopam shot their second schedule in Jordan recently. A source says, “This was an extensive schedule, which also saw some steep expenses incurred by the team for this trilingual project. The team has a month-long schedule in the UK as well.”

Suriya replaces Vijay in Vijay TV’s Kaun Banega Crorepati
Posted under Cinenews, featured, surya, Vijay on December 17, 2011 9:45 AM / 73 Comments

Actor Suriya has been making rapid progress as a star in Kollywood in the past few years. Ever since he starred in director Bala’s Nandha and Pithamagan, Suriya appears to have discovered the winning formula and is repeating it in various films in the recent past. Slowly but surely he looks all set to overtake Ilayathalapathy Vijay as the leading hero of Kollywood after the likes of superstar Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan.
Though they haven’t made it public, there is a ‘hide-and-seek’ game played by these two. Suriya’s ambition appears to be to take on Vijay at every possible opportunity and come out on top. Suriya was the clear winner when the last time these two ‘clashed’ on Deepavali when Suriya’s 7aum Arivu and Vijay’s Velayudham clashed at the box-office. Critics hold that content-wise and performance-wise, the Suriya-starrer was leagues ahead.
For his upcoming film Maatraan directed by K.V. Anand, Suriya has reportedly secured the distribution and release rights of the film’s Telugu version as well. This has taken his total fee for the film to just over Rs.18 crore, a sum which has never been touched by the likes of Vijay and Ajith. In the past, Suriya had taken on many projects rejected by Vijay and had come out triumphs each time, much to the dismay of the latter.
The latest round when Suriya managed to beat many of his contemporaries is the hosting of a reality game show in Vijay TV. The game-show, on the lines of Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan’s Kaun Banega Crorepati, would be hosted by Suriya. Actually, it was Vijay who was first approached by the channel to host the game show for a hefty fee. For reasons known best to him, Vijay opted out of the show.
Suriya, who has recently returned from Italy after a long schedule of shooting of Maatraan, has returned to Chennai and has reportedly been shooting at present for the game show. Suriya is said to have been paid a whopping amount of 1 Crore per day of his call sheet to shoot for the show.
Industry-watchers predict that the show, to be relayed on Vijay TV would surely be another jewel in Suriya’s crown!

Low key wedding for Riteish-Genelia
By Baiju NT [December 17, 2011]
With the never-ending media glare on their wedding, actors Riteish Deshmukh and Genelia have apparently made a few alterations in their wedding plans! They have decided to make their wedding a very private affair, moving away from an opulent public marriage ceremony.
According to sources, the wedding will be a private affair and only people close to both the Desmukh and D’Souza families will be invited. There will be a reception bash, but efforts are being made to tone down the budget.
"Right now, both the families have agreed that they don’t want a very public wedding and that the guest list will be limited. The wedding, as the couple wants, would be limited to 1,000 people and not more than that. Considering the clout of the Deshmukh family, it is a very low figure. However, there will be separate invites sent out for separate functions,” a source said.
