K’WOOD OFFERED ME BETTER SCRIPTS
Malayali actress Ineya, who courted fame in Kollywood, is finally making her debut in a Malayalam commercial flick
Think Ineya and it’s Kollywood that flashes across your mind. Not for long though. The Malayali actress is now ready to test waters with her first commercial flick in Mollywood, Bhoopadathil Illaatha Oridam. The success of her latest Tamil release, Mauna Guru, which hit theatres in Kerala recently, has given her the confidence to take the plunge.
However, Shruthi Sawant aka Ineya insists that she’ll keep her rechristened name than the original. “There are so many Shruthis around,” she says with a smile. “So I’d rather stick to Ineya (which means sweet), the name K’wood director Sarkunam gave me,” says the actress, who is familiar to the Tamil audience through films including director Mishkin’s crime thriller Yuddham Sei and Sarkunam’s romantic comedy Vaagai Sooda Vaa.
Director Joe Chalissery’s Bhoopadathil Illaatha Oridam will have her playing a village belle called Bhama opposite Nivin Pauly. The Sreenivasan-starrer will start its shoot on April 10. But what took her so long to start out in the industry closer home? “It was from Tamil that good offers kept pouring in. However, I’ve been part of two art house films in Malayalam — Saira and Dalamarmarangal. Bhoopadathil… will mark my debut in M’wood’s commercial flicks,” she says.
Meanwhile, the actress is busy with the shoot of Kollywood director Bharathiraja’s comeback flick Annakodiyum Kodiveeranum, where she plays actor-director Ameer’s pair. “I play a rustic village girl called Mallanginar Mangaatha who tends cattle. My look will be different from what I've done so far, complete with dark shades of make-up, a nose stud and the traditional thala (anklet) on one leg. Working with Bharathiraja is every actor’s dream. He sure is a living legend,” she says.
