Kireedom-Title trouble!

Suresh Balajee’s Ajit starer Kireedom is going for a title change. Suresh has written to the entertainment tax department to confirm whether the title will be acceptable or not for tax exemption.
The buzz is that Kireedom (means crown) is a Sanskrit word and sounds more like Malayalam. The Tamil equivalent of crown is Magudam. When contacted Suresh says: “We are looking at other alternatives but will not be going for a change till the tax department confirms or rejects the Kireedom title”.

Meanwhile Suresh Balajee is in Rajamundry with director A.L.Vijay in finalizing the location. The film will start rolling in the first week of December and will be shot in Rajamundry and Karaikudi.

The highlight of the film will be the emotional bonding between Raj Kiran who plays father a police constable and son Ajit who dreams of becoming a sub inspector in police force. Saranya will play the role of Ajit’s mother and a Telugu actor will play the villain.

The others in the cast are Trisha, Vivek, KPAC Lalitha and VMC Haneefa with music by G.V.Prakash, Rahman’s nephew. It will be Ajit’s summer 2007 release on his birthday- May 1.

Ajith's movie christened as Magudam

Name change is working wonders in Kollywood now. God Father starring Ajith was changed to Varalaru and it opened big. So was the case with movies like Unakkum Enakkum and Em Mahan.

And more than it being mandated by the rules of the government, it seems name change has become a sentiment in Tamil film industry. After Aalwar, Ajith is supposed to do Kireedom to be produced by Suresh Balaji.

Buzz is that the producer and the actor are planning for a name change since they feel Kireedom sounds more of a Malayalam name than of Tamil. Moreover with the State government announcing tax-exemption for movies titled in Tamil, plans are on to change the title to Magudam.

By opting for a title change, they feel half the battle is already won.

Ajith's next venture after Azhwar is Magudam. As we had reported earlier this movie’s title was changed from Kireedom to Magudam, to give it a finer Tamil touch. The story line of Magudam is based on Mohanlal's Malayalam classic, Kireedom, directed by Sibimalayil.The screenplay has been modified to suit Tamil audiences and Ajith's on screen image.Magudam is being produced by yesteryear producer Balaji's Sujatha Cine Arts in collaboration with Mumbai's Adlabs.The film is directed by debutant Vijay,who has worked as an assistant for noted Malayalam director Priyadarshan.Cinematography is handled by Thiru. Music is composed by G.V.Prakash.


The shooting for Magudam is scheduled to start on December 6th in Rajamundhri,Andhra Pradesh., with Ajith and Trisha dancing for a song sequence.The star cast also includes Rajkiran and Saranya who play Ajith's parents. Ajith is hoping for a big hit with Magudam,as the script is a winner. Worth mentioning is the fact that the original Kireedom won the the national award (special jury) for the best movie in 1989.

Thala fans also have another reason to celebrate. Magudam is slated for a May 1 release, if shooting is completed on schedule.

Magudam may well turn out to be the icing on Ajith 's birthday cake!
