Mammootty's super hit Malayalam film is being dubbed into Tamil.

Sometimes Malayalam films are dubbed into Tamil, and sometimes re-made into Tamil.

'Ellam Avan Seyal' directed by Shaji Kailash is the remake of Malayalam film 'Chintamani Kola Case' featuring Suresh Gopi. Soon, Mammootty's 'Rajamanikam' is to be released in Tamil.

In the film, Mammootty plays the role of a blind man who wears sunglasses all the time. He is Bellary Raja based in Bellary where he sells buffaloes. When his mother's second husband passes away, she gives Mammoootty the responsibility of managing her property. For this, he goes to Kerala, where he meets the irresponsible son and daughter of his stepfather and puts them on the right path.

Ranjith is the nadar who plays the villain. Mammootty's Thiruvananthapuram Malayalam pronunciation has been much appreciated in the film. The film is to be dubbed in Tamil and released as 'Maatukaara Velan,' the title of an old MGR film. According to the story, Mammootty sells buffaloes, so should not the film have been titled 'Erumaikaara Velan'?

Maybe they think erumai is not respectable?

    Nagma in politics!

After films and cricket, Nagma has her eyes on politics!

Whatever she does, Nagma seems to make headlines. Her affair with cricket Sourav Ganguly, her association with underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, her affair with married Bhojpuri star, are but a few instances.

Congress MP, Dhanushkodi Adithyan, usually gives a party in Delhi for Delhi MPs before Christmas. This year's party took place at Maurya Sheraton and the surprise guest there was Nagma.

She arrived an hour before the party started and was engaged in animated conversation with the politicians present. Because the PM and Sonia Gandhi were among the guest, there was very strong security.

Nagma said that she would join Congress and act as per Sonia Gandhi's instructions.

She also made a great statement that if Sonia so wished, she would even join the Tamilnadu Congress and work for it.

The Congress has split into so many factions, that we wish Nagma all the best!

It looks like Vikram's long overdue Bheema may make it to the theatres on January 11, 2008 as Pongal release! The date has also a significance that five years back, Dhool the film that made Vikram a superstar was released on the same day!

The grapevine is abuzz that producer A.M Ratnam is in the final round of negotiations with Ayngaran International to swing the deal. Remember it was Ayngaran who released the trailer of the film, which has been appreciated by the audiences.

What really makes Bheema hot, a film which has been two years in production is the current craze for superstar biggies. Vikram is a superstar inspite of not having a release for two years. He commands a terrific opening and if Bheema is marketed like Sivaji or a Billa it stands to make big money for all concerned.

The next Tamil biggie scheduled to release is Kamal Hassan's Dasavatharam, some time in summer of 2008. So the trade is anxious and eager to have a biggie for Pongal, a very good season for Tamil films.

And what better movie than Bheema, which has a superstar, excellent hit music, awesome action, glamour, glitz and packaged slickly by a director with a proven track record for making family entertainers!

S.J Suryah was spotted with long hair at the audio launch of Palani is back to direction. He is going to do what he does best- directing others from behind the camera!

Suryah is starting the shoot of his ambitious project Puli in Telugu with superstar Pawan Kalyan from January 16. The film is produced by Kanakaratna Films Ramesh, who last made the Vijay super hit Pokkiri.

As of now, Suryah is acting as hero in the Tamil film Vil, directed by Prabhakaran and produced by Nic Arts S.S Chakravarthy. The distributors are not showing any interest in the film after his last two releases could not even recover the cost of their print and publicity!

The idea now is that Suryah will put his heart and soul into Telugu Puli, and make it a hit! If he manages to pull it off, then producer Ramesh has promised him he will remake it in Tamil with Suryah as the hero!

    Vellithirai- A unique audio launch!

    By Moviebuzz

    Last Updated: Wednesday, 19 December , 2007, 12:59
The Vellithirai audio launch was a unique affair. Prakash Raj had decked up the entrance of Taj Ballroom like an old cinema kotta (theatre), which one found in 50's and 60's, in rural Tamilnadu with posters from the films of MGR and Sivaji.

Prakash Raj's Duet Movies, Moser Baer and Mirchi Movies are jointly producing Vellithirai starring Prakash Raj, Pritviraj, Gopika and directed by Viji, with music by G.V Prakash. But more than the audio launch it turned out to be a felicitation function for musical legends M.S Viswanathan and T.K Ramamurthy.

It was a novel idea of Prakash Raj to honour the melody kings of Tamil music who has composed for over 1700 films from 50's to early 80's. As Vidyasagar said at the function: "MSV is my guru and he is Isai Kadavul (God of music), nobody in the world can make melody like him."

Added S.P Balasubramaniyan, who went nostalgic and had the audiences in split with his speech: " MSV was the first person to tell me to speak in good Tamil. Today music has become plastic, it lacks soul. What should be a good melody was defined by MSV, I congratulate Prakash Raj for making this function memorable by inviting MSV, TKR and PBS." SPB and P.B Sreenivas regaled the audiences with a couple of songs from the goldien oldies. Vairamuthu too made a long speech in praise of the legendary music director.

MSV in his speech said it was fans and admirers that made his music popular and everlasting. Said MSV: " I want only peoples recognition, that is the real award. Nalla meter, matter and melody is there in a song, every generation will relish it. Good music is ageless."

The audio launch ceremony took nearly three hours and the crowd became restless, as some kids sang with orchestra for nearly one hour from MSV's golden oldies. Mohanlal the Malayalam superstar had cancelled his shooting and flew in from Thiruvananthapuram to attend the function.

In his speech Mohanlal said: "It is a great honour to be present at a function to honour the great maestros. I consider it an auspicious moment and an amazing evening." Lal ettan ran out without meeting the media after the function in the pouring rain to catch a late night flight back home!

The Vellithirai team never spoke anything about the films music, and not even a song or clipping was shown from the film. Those present on the occasion were Mani Ratnam, Suhasini, Karthi, Pritviraj among others.

    I don't play a terrorist, explains Vikram

If one does not keep feeding tidbits to the media, they anyway make up their own and run riot. The latest is that Vikram is playing a terrorist in 'Kandasamy.'

Is it true? Of course not, says Chiyan. "It's true I'm doing varied roles in 'Kandasamy.' It's also known about what roles I'm doing. But the rumour that I'm playing a terrorist who comes from Italy is not true.

I'm one who raises his voice against injustice. But there is no connection between this story and that of 'Anniyan.' Many scenes that would appeal to children also take place in the film," said Vikram with a touch of annoyance.

It's been 2 years since a film of yours got released?

"It's true. After 'Maja,' I acted in 'Bheema' that seems to be getting delayed to release. This could be disappointing to viewers. To set that right, I've decided to continue to act in films. After 'Bheema' is released, 'Kandasamy' would follow," said Chiyan.

Some new musicians are half baked – SPB disappointed

Singer SP Balasubramaniam takes part in cinema functions once in a blue moon. At recent functions, he has spoken with anger in his voice.

After being assistant to Venkatesh and Lingusamy, Kanagu makes his directorial debut with 'Pidichirukku.' Staring 'Muruga' Ashok, the music for the film is composed by young Madhu Rameshan.

At the music release function, senior musicians like SP Balasubramaniam, P Susheela, MS Viswanathan and S Janaki participated. Each song was introduced before being played. Madhu Rameshan's father Rameshan Nair has also penned lyrics for one of the songs.

"When I narrated the story of 'Run' to AM Rathnam, I first suggested the title 'Pidichirukka.' He did not like the title, so I suggested 'Run.' I am very happy that Kanagy has now taken the title of 'Pidichirukku' for his film," said a proud Lingusamy of his pupil.

"The title of my first film was 'Muruga.' In this, my second film, I play a character named Vel. So I feel everything is happening with god's blessings. I am so lucky to receive the blessings of greats like Ms. Susheela and SPB sir," said hero Ashok and feel at their feet.

"When making 'Annamalai,' a small boy used to sit in the corner in Balachander's office and play the keyboard. His music used to have a certain something. That boy is none other than the internationally famous AR Rehman. I now see a unique quality in Madhu Rameshan's music. I think he'll also rise to become a prominent composer," said director Suresh Krishna.

SPB's speech also seemed to confirm this but at one stage his voice throbbed with anger towards young generation musicians.

"In those days when recordings were being done, the whole place used to be so lively live a marriage function. Nowadays it is anything but that. Many seem to be like half baked musicians. They don't even know the notes of a raga," said SPB expressing his disappointment.

Director Kanagu proposed the vote of thanks. Special guests were honored with a memento by the producer.
