RGV’s movie on 26/11 runs into trouble
Ram Gopal Varma’s latest flick, “The Attacks of 26/11”, has run into rough weather with the Andhra Pradesh High Court issuing notices to the filmmaker, the Censor Board and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
The court has asked them to file replies within a week following a petition challenging the censor certificate issued to the movie.
Justice Ramesh Ranganathan issued notices after admitting a petition by T Ram Prasad, an advocate, who sought cancellation of the clearance certificate on the grounds that the movie would only rake up memories of the ghastly incident.
However, the court did not agree with the petitioner on the issue of stalling the release and ruled that a decision on the matter would be taken only after hearing all parties. The case has been posted for further hearing for March 5.
The petitioner contended that the movie would not serve any purpose and could have the potential to promote violence. It also contended that the Censor Board had ignored the guidelines issued by the Centre in this regard.
The thriller, released worldwide, attempts to capture the victims agony and the selfless sacrifice by the policemen who laid down their lives in the line of duty.
Debutant Sanjeev Jaiswal is playing the role of Ajmal Kasab and Nana Patekar appears in the role of Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Rakesh Maria.
