Youngistan’s yea for D K Bose
As some of the latest ‘slangy’ songs create a brouhaha in prudish arenas, city youngsters have a different take…
Vinita Chaturvedi
If there was hoopla created over songs like Saali re, Party abhi baaki hai etc…,
the language police is now screaming itself hoarse about the cultural degradation as songs like Bhaag DK Bose and Penchar from Delhi Belly and title song of Dum Maaro Dum become a rage among the youngsters. While parents might be squirming in their seats, BT discovers that most of the city youngsters are swaying with these new-age numbers…
COOL QUOTIENT
When it comes to stating their choices, youngsters don’t believe in mincing their words. When you like something, state it upfront, is the mantra of the Gen-next! As Sheena Renu, a BBA student puts it, “DK Bose and Dum Maaro Dum are really cool! I can’t understand why an uproar is being created over them! I really have a problem with this censorious attitude of certain people, who are forever ready to axe anything in the name of morality. Please give us a break!” MODERN LINGO
It’s not just the cool quotient of these songs, but also the fact that four-letter words are now a part of modern lingo, that works in their favour. Sejal Sangwai, a student, is speaking for many of her ilk when she says, “A few years back, people merely used cuss words like ‘s@#t’ in their informal chat, but now, the youngsters’ conversation is incomplete without the frequent use of ‘F’ words. We’ve changed with the times and nobody’s raising an eyebrow over this parlance.”
DIFFERENT STROKES
In this medley of so many in favour of D K Bose kind of lyrics, Shivani Dange, a student, voices a strong ‘nah’! Ask her the reason, and she says, “The beats of the Bose number are catchy, but I’m really disappointed with the lyrics! And the words of DMD song are really disgusting! If these songs are being used to garner publicity, then there are many positive ways to garner publicity!” Harshit Kabra, a student, begs to differ. He says, “We need not be prudish about such words. ”
