Rs 25 cr nett in the opening weekend and Rs 40 cr in the opening week - that's the yardstick these days. That's the sentiment a lot of industry people communicate when they talk of big-budget films that are given an extensive release. And I don't blame the industry people for feeling that way. Look at the success ratio in these four months [from June to September]. Films like READY, DOUBLE DHAMAAL, DELHI BELLY, MURDER 2, ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA, SINGHAM, BODYGUARD and MERE BROTHER KI DULHAN not only started with a bang, but have had a successful run at the box-office.
One expected MAUSAM to fetch a flying start at the ticket window, given the fact that the promotion was at an all-time high and also because it had no major opposition to contend with on that particular Friday. But MAUSAM has not performed as expected. The opening weekend didn't witness a major jump in business, while the performance of the film on weekdays is way below the mark. The business has witnessed substantial decline in every circuit.
What does one attribute the below the mark response to? Well, the word of mouth is far from positive. Sure, a section of the audience has liked the film, but a big chunk of movie-going audience hasn't liked it. Plus, the excessive length seems to have proved a spoilsport. That's not all, the youth of today -- which should be the target audience for this love story -- hasn't taken to the film. Films like DELHI BELLY and MERE BROTHER KI DULHAN worked because the youth could connect with these two films. Like someone very rightly pointed out, the audience of today has no patience to watch slow-paced movies that have a running time of close to 3 hours.
The second release, SPEEDY SINGHS, showed hardly any speed at the ticket counters. The film met with a tepid response at the domestic box-office and that, very frankly, doesn't come as a surprise.
'Mausam' fares well

MAUSAM has fared well. The film has grossed $ 1.5 million in its opening weekend … MERE BROTHER KI DULHAN is a decent success … Telugu film DOOKUDU has fetched a mind-boggling start internationally.

- MAUSAM: In its opening weekend, the film has collected £ 1,88,488 [approx. Rs. 1.45 crores] on 42 screens, with the per screen average working out to £ 4,488.
- MERE BROTHER KI DULHAN: In its third weekend, the film has collected £ 32,316 on 21 screens, with the per screen average working out to £ 1,539. Total: £ 4,48,462 [approx. Rs. 3.44 crores].
- BODYGUARD: In its fourth weekend, the film has collected £ 19,044 on 13 screens, with the per screen average working out to £ 1,465. Total: £ 13,97,116 [approx. Rs. 10.72 crores].
- YAARA O DILDAARA: In its opening weekend, the film has collected £ 13,722 [approx. Rs. 10.53 lacs] on 8 screens, with the per screen average working out to £ 1,715.
- BOL: In its fourth weekend, the film has collected £ 3,533 on 3 screens, with the per screen average working out to £ 1,178. Total: £ 1,98,418 [approx. Rs. 1.52 crores].
- VANTHAAN VENDRAAN [Tamil]: In its second weekend, the film has collected £ 1,975 on 4 screens, with the per screen average working out to £ 494. Total: £ 17,955 [approx. Rs. 13.78 lacs].
U.S.A. BOX-OFFICE
- MAUSAM: In its opening weekend, the film has collected $ 4,59,024 [approx. Rs. 2.26 crores] on 96 screens, with the per screen average working out to $ 4,782.
- BOL: In its fourth weekend, the film has collected $ 3,069 on 38 screens, with the per screen average working out to $ 81. Total: $ 1,88,410 [approx. Rs. 92.84 lacs].
AUSTRALIA BOX-OFFICE
- MAUSAM: In its opening weekend, the film has collected Aus. $ 84,113 [approx. Rs. 40.59 lacs] on 12 screens, with the per screen average working out to Aus. $ 7,009.
- MERE BROTHER KI DULHAN: In its third weekend, the film has collected Aus. $ 8,910 on 9 screens, with the per screen average working out to Aus. $ 990. Total: Aus. $ 1,84,557 [approx. Rs. 89.07 lacs].

Kajal Aggarwal’s topless strategy does not seem to augur well for her. The media in Bollywood has been hinting that Kajal Aggarwal went topless for the FHM Magazine Cover to gain projects in Bollywood. Kajal Aggarwal immediately came up with an explanation that the pictures were morphed.
But the FHM Magazine had sufficient evidence to prove that she had indeed gone topless for the magazine cover for which she had signed prior agreements and documents. Soon after she denied, she had again posed topless for the Filmfare Magazine.
Contrary to her expectations that she would bag Bollywood film opportunities, if she posed topless, the film industry from Kerala had offered her roles in soft porn movies. These are the types of movies in which actresses like Shakeela acted for well over a decade.
They had all lined up before the actress to sign her for soft porn movies. Kajal Aggarwal is so much upset over what transpired, when she had planned for bigger scheme of things by posing nude.
