Mallika Sherawat plays Haryanvi girl in Kismat Love Paisa Dilli

She is famous as Bollywood’s sultry queen. And now, Mallika Sherawat is set to do KLPD. Well, the Murder girl is set to act in Sanjay Khanduri’s next film, KLPD — Kismat Love Paisa Dilli — opposite Vivek Oberoi. And what’s interesting is that the Rohtak girl for the first time will revisit her

    Haryanvi roots for the film.

“Mallika is the perfect choice because she comes from the Haryanvi-Punjabi milieu. So, she can easily carry off the typical attitude and the body language of a North Indian girl, besides the natural grasp over the lingo,” says producer Amit Chandrra of Invincible Entertainment.

The makers were actually “looking for an actor who could fit into the tez, tarrar bracket” easily. “And considering the film’s theme, its setting and Vivek’s Delhi ka munda character, no one else could have fit the role better than Mallika,” says Chandrra.

At the same time, unlike most of Mallika’s films, KLPD doesn’t aim to focus only on her sensual side. “Mallika’s role will be more on the lines of Pyaar Ke Side Effects. She is also very excited because she also feels that after a long time, she has got a performance-oriented role,” says Chandrra.

Although the actor hails from Haryana, she will go through workshops to get into the character. “We’ve already started the preparations with Vivek. Once Mallika is back from the US, she too will go through language workshops and story sessions along with him,” says the producer.

Contrary to reports, Chandrra clarifies that KLPD is not exactly a sequel to Gyrah Chalis Ki Last Local (GCKLL). “The only similarity with GCKLL is that KLPD is also a story of one night and how it affects the lives of its protagonists. But that’s where the similarity ends,” he says.

KLPD goes on floors later this month and will be shot extensively in Delhi around January-February. “We are going to shoot the film in a start-to-finish schedule,” says Chandrra.

    Forever Anand

A day after the news of the sudden demise of the eternal romantic Dev Anand, millions whom he had entertained over the decades still found it tough to come to terms with the fact that an era had indeed come to an end.

His contemporary and veteran actor Akkineni Nageswara Rao recalls sharing mutual admiration with Dev Anand, “He was a legendary figure. He was the first recipient of the ANR award and we both had this mutual love and respect for each other. I remember the time when we both were selected as guests for a cultural exchange programme between India and USA. We both travelled separately and met in the US and stayed in a hotel. We were there for 13 days and often shared interesting conversations. He mostly acted in romantic movies and had a style of his own.”

    An actor and a gentleman

Producer D. Ramanaidu recalls Dev Anand's warm and humble persona off screen. “I have had the opportunity of working with Rajesh Khanna, Jeetendra, Anil Kapoor and then Mithun Chakraborty. But I regret not being able to work with Dev Anand. In those days when I was producing Hindi movies, I used to stay at Sun-N-Sand in Mumbai where we used to conduct script discussions. Dev Anand was also a frequent visitor to the hotel since discussions for his movies also used to be conducted there. We used to meet each other often, either in the lift or the lobby, and exchange greetings. He used to jovially ask me why I never approach him for any of my films. I would smile and tell him that whenever I ask him, he has no dates to spare,” shares Ramanaidu.

The producer remembers Dev Anand to be warm and friendly towards his producers, directors and junior artistes. “As an actor, we remember him by his super hit movies and he had a good ear for music. Off screen, he was a thorough gentleman. In recent years, we met at an awards function in Mumbai and then in Hyderabad when he received the ANR award. The industry has lost another luminary,” says Ramanaidu.

Twenty four hours after he passed away, condolences continued to pour in on social networking forums with people paying tributes to the actor recalling his movies and music. “He wasn't 88. He had turned 22 for the fourth time,” read a message on Twitter that was re-tweeted more than 100 times.

Also trending were his films Jewel Thief and Hum Dono. Film lovers were quick to recall the passing away of Shammi ‘yahoo' Kapoor early this year.

Another message on Twitter that was re-tweeted more than 100 times read, “Steve Jobs. Jagjit Singh. Shammi Kapoor. Dev Anand. Bhupen Hazarika. God is the real Jewel Thief.”

As Dev Anand's family gathers in London for the last rites, the words of his nephew and actor Vaibhav Anand's words sum up the legendary actor's zest for life and age-defying energy levels.

Vaibhav Anand, speaking to MetroPlus a year ago, had stated, “My instant confidence booster now is Dev uncle. When I feel low, I drive down to his place and in two minutes, he makes me feel fresh and vibrant. I remember what he always says ‘Hum zindagi mein kabhi haar nahin maney'.”

Often referred to as Gregory Peck of India, Dev Anand had aptly stated in an interview to CNN, “Gregory Peck was Gregory Peck. At this stage (of my life), I would rather be Dev Anand.”

Sonu Nigam's 4-year-old son sings 'Kolaveri Di'

New Delhi: Tamil actor Dhanush has stiff competition for his hit song 'Why this Kolaveri Di' - from playback singer Sonu Nigam's four years old son Nevaan. The pint-sized singer has modified the song to add new lyrics and his version is getting as much attention as the one sung by Dhanush on YouTube.
The new version of the song has the lyrics 'handla glass-u, glass la milk-u, milk-u colour white-u; empty glass-u, mamma come-u, give me milk-u dear-u." Nigam is seen in the video along with his wife Madhurima, encouraging their son who takes on the microphone with the practised ease of a pro.
The milk version of 'Kolaveri Di' already has 82,900 page views while the original, which was uploaded on November 16 is going strong with 16,253,632 hits. Composed by 18-year-old Anirudh Ravichander, the song with funny lyrics is sung in an unconventional manner by Dhanush himself and it will be a part of his next film '3', which is being directed by his wife Aishwayra. The film also stars Shruthi Haasan.

Seldom has any song created such a craze - from children to youngsters to celebrities, everyone is hooked on to the song. Dhanush says he is overwhelmed by the response to his song 'Kolaveri Di', which has become a rage online, attracting fans like Amitabh Bachchan.
The Tanglish (Tamil and English) song is a funny take on a heartbreak. Despite his young age, Nevaan, who has dark ringlets, has sung with confidence and endeared himself to thousands of people on the Internet.

Sunny Leone as an actress in Bollywood! Are Indian audiences maturing?

Kamya Jaiswal, ET Bureau Dec 4, 2011, 03.40am IST
    Tags:

Where was she all these years? An Indianorigin star shining bright, winning accolades, making moolah and we didn't make a mad dash to claim rights on the success? But then Sunny Leone is no economist or Nobel Laureate. She is a porn star.
She may boast a fatter pay cheque than Amartya Sen and more fan pages than Freida Pinto, but would we shout out to the world: look, Indian DNA excels in adult entertainment — it makes people with bodies and moves worth a $100 million? Hell no.

Not even if she is an ex-Penthouse Pet of the Year and can give any Bunny or Teddy a run for her Hefner. The few Indian men and women who knew Leone a month ago were indifferent to her Karan Johar movie genes (she was born Karen Malhotra to Sikh parents in Canada).
Leone popped up on screens in dark bedrooms and some sweaty hours later was conveniently firewalled. Until, she appeared on a prime time reality show on TV. Today, hundreds of Leone videos have gone viral — did you know Leone wanted to be a nurse?
That she lost her virginity at 16? Or that her parents didn't know about her profession when she started (Duh?)... As Leone forces herself into national consciousness, the squeals of delight have been, expectedly, muted. The surprise is that the Bhartiya Naari Ko Bachao groups seem to be gagged too. Where are the protests against the 'blatant debasement of Indian values'?
Why are the Sainiks, Sevaks and other custodians of Indian culture in hiding? Why haven't Leone's posters and effigies been burnt on streets? Granted, her pole dance in the reality show was tame. Especially by Bollywood's pelvic-thrust and "ooh-la-la heave" standards.
But no Indian celebrity has flaunted such scandalous credentials. No one has given interviews about the joy of posing nude, or acting in movies like Shut Up and F*** Me. And there is not a whimper of protest. The only people who feel imperiled by Leone are members of the Indian Artistes and Actors Forum (IAAF). They have complained against outsourcing plum jobs in TV shows and movies to foreigners when hundreds of Indians girls are waiting for a break. A frontrunner in the protest: Rakhi Sawant.
What is that Leone can bring to a reality show that legions of Sawants can't? No one's telling. Such wide acceptance of Leone and her profession kindles hope: may be the notorious Indian hypocrisy has tired of its own weight. May be there is a slow shift in people perception of their nocturnal avatar: not as a schizophrenic extension to be ashamed of but as a normal facet of their personality.
There are some more reasons for the optimism: movies that show gritty greasy sexual encounters, annual gay parades, homosexual couples in mainstream Hindi serials and Playboys sunning themselves alongside business and political magazines at corner stores. But you can't wish away the contradictions. The policemen who slap lovers in a Ghaziabad park.
The censor board which raises hackles over the word "sex" in the trailer of upcoming rom-com Ek Main Aur Ek Tu. And the Tamil actor banned from acting for having an affair with a married man (the ban was later lifted). So let's not be fantasists.

While the absence of an anti-Leone campaign is a good omen, it does not represent a new paradigm in India's juvenile relationship with the three-letter word. A popular school of thought claims Leone hasn't brought the gang on the streets because she is hardly Indian.
And no one minds a salacious Caucasian. Else, filmmakers couldn't churn out dance tracks with skimpily clad foreigners doing desi thrusts. Now Mahesh Bhatt is keen to shake up some convenient truths. Leone has been cast as the lead in his next flick, Jism 2. Will we be as accepting of her porn-pedigree if she makes it big in Bollywood?

Dev Anand's films were ahead of their times

Dev Anand's films were always considered ahead of their times. Much like the man, his creative impulses strained at breaking new ground.

Even in his 80's the ever energetic Dev Anand kept making films and with a vigour that could shame much younger people. He was always ready to make another film, always ready to set another trend, forever ready to live life, but on his own terms.

Dev Anand can be defined as the debonair whose charm was so irresistible that he was banned from wearing black in public, the lover who redefined on-screen romance and had frenzied female fans sending him letters written in blood and the visionary whose films broke stereotypes and set trends for future filmmakers to emulate.

Filmmaker Sudhir Mishra himself admitted: "He was much more modern than the so called young filmmakers."

Baazi, released in 1951, was a trendsetter of sorts for the spate of urban crime thrillers that followed throughout the 1950s. Guide, the classic that catapulted him to the pinnacle of stardom, dealt with the bold subject of a liaison between a man and a married woman.

Not only did it bring to the forefront the issue of an extra-marital affair, it was also shot simultaneously in Hindi and English. The film stood the test of time and today is regarded as one of the finest works in Bollywood for its path-breaking screenplay and treatment.

Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt said: "Devsaab's death reminds you of an era where people lived on their own terms, without any fear."

With Hare Rama Hare Krishna, Dev Anand introduced his audience to the underbelly of the hippie culture, a territory that no other filmmaker had dared to venture into before. The movie ushered the drug saturated sounds and looks of the swinging 1960s psychedelia into India.

Though his directorial debut Prem Pujari did not taste success, this espionage drama stirred up a controversy for alluding to India's hostilities with Pakistan and China. Today, the film has achieved a cult status.

Decade after decade, film after film, Dev Anand shattered norms in Bollywood just to create new ones. The vagaries of failure never seemed to bother the ever charming Dev Anand as he kept on making films unmindful of their returns at the box office.

Actress Hema Malini said: "He put whatever he had into his films and never thought of anything."

Dev Anand's later films, especially those in the 1980s and 90s failed to impress the masses. However, nothing could daunt him. He was the young man on the set. He was the one who was ever optimistic because for Dev Anand there was always a tomorrow, another day to try out something new.

MI4 team wants stronger Bollywood-Hollywood ties

Hollywood heartthrob Tom Cruise, actress Paula Patton and Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor spoke glowingly about more Bollywood-Hollywood projects in the future, on a promotional spree for the fourth installment of the 'Mission Impossible' series Mumbai. While Cruise said he would love acting in Hindi films, Paula wants a project with Aishwarya Rai.

"I love watching Hindi movies. There are many Hindi movies that come out every year but I do watch a few of them. (If offered a Bollywood film) I would never say no. I would love to do it," said 49-year-old Tom Cruise in Mumbai.

Dressed casually in a blue shirt and denims, Cruise interacted with fans and the media after the screening of 'Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol' at IMAX in suburban Wadala on Sunday evening.

"I'm honoured and privileged to be in India. I loved being here. The atmosphere and the people here are very nice. I'm happy with the love and appreciation I'm getting from my fans over here. India is an amazing place and I would definitely love to come again," he said.

Kunal Kapoor in Anurag Kashyap's food film
    TNN | Dec 5, 2011, 12.00AM IST-timesofindia.indiatimes.com

Anurag Kashyap wanted to make sure his lead actors Kunal Kapoor and Huma Qureshi had great chemistry before they started work on his next Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana.

Hence the pair was called in a few days before shooting started to bond so that the chemistry looked great. Says a source, "This is India's first ever food film and also marks Anurag's first ever family entertainer - completely different from his usual dark and edgy films. LSTCK is a mad cap comedy about a quirky Punjabi family."

A lot of time was spent on rehearsals between the two actors. In fact, Kunal couldn't be part of Don 2 promotions as he's in Punjab shooting for Luv Shuv.
