Kajal Aggarwal: “I’m not attracted to Ajay Devgn”

Kajal Aggarwal talks about finding Mr Right someday. Filmfare is impressed by the sweetheart on the block

Sweet deams are made of these. From being a South Mumbai girl about to venture into advertising, to becoming the toast of the South film industry is quite a roller-coaster ride. More so because she belongs to a traditional Punjabi family. Interestingly, Kajal Aggarwal has blended well not only in the Southern film industry, but also with its people, languages and cuisine.

Life couldn’t seem more perfect. Her first Hindi film Singham has been a humongous success. “I knew it would be a great film as I had seen the Tamil version. And of course Rohit (Shetty) was making it with so much conviction. He did make a lot of changes keeping the Hindi audience’s sensibilities in mind. But I didn’t expect it to be this big,” says Kajal who made her debut with Kyun...! Ho Gaya Na way back in 2004 before heading Southwards.
Singham’s success was hugely credited to Ajay Devgn. Did she feel sidelined? “No not really. I agree it’s a hero- dominated subject and I can’t be doing all the action. Ajay got his due credit, he deserved it. Having said that, it was not like I was ignored,” she asserts. She insists that the film has worked well for her. “People have loved me in the film. I’ve received so many offers after the film released that I’ve been reading scripts every day. I believe in quality over quantity. I don’t want to sign a film just because it is a Hindi film.” She’s not the one to make hasty decisions. “Honestly, I’ve made no plans. I’ve just started off in Hindi cinema and I’d love to work with a lot of actors and directors,” says Kajal. She’s all praise for her Singham co-star Ajay Devgn. “He’s extremely professional. Although a little reserved, he’s a co-operative co-star. He’s always into his character and that’s admirable. I don’t know how he is as a person as all I saw was Bajirao Singham on the set.”
Wasn’t she attracted to Ajay at all, given his charismatic personality? Kajal weighs her words carefully, “Yes, he does have a very charming personality. And yes, he is Ajaj Devgn and I’ve been watching his films for years. I was awestruck by Ajay, not attracted to him.” The actress sighs that she has been linked up with every actor she’s worked with and has no clue where all the stories emerge from. “I’d never date someone so senior. “I respect Ajay a lot,” she clarifies.

Coming from a conservative family, till a couple of years ago, she had to adhere to a deadline and had to be home within the appointed time. “I used to have curfews at home but now my parents let my sister and me decide. We are responsible and don’t want to disappoint or hurt our parents by doing something wrong. They are more protective than orthodox.”

She claims she’s single and blames her busy schedule for the same. “Tell me, how do I fit in a boyfriend and the demands of a relationship in my hectic life?” She asserts she doesn’t miss being in a relationship, thanks to her friends and a great family. “Of course I do want to be in a relationship but when the time is right. I can’t be single all my life!”

She reveals, “During my college days, I was in a relationship, which meant a lot. I was very happy. But with distance and lack of time (given her career), I guess we just drew apart. We grew to be two different people, wanting different things in life.” Will it be difficult to sustain a relationship in the future as well? “I don’t think so. If there’s a will, there’s a way. I haven’t found someone I’d want to make time for though I’m good at multi-tasking. But right now there is no one on the radar. I’m just focused on work.”

JODI BREAKERS trailer: R Madhavan and Bipasha Basu on a rampage

Watch the trailer of director Ashwini Chaudhary’s next comedy film where his leading actors Bipasha Basu and R Madhavan are on a heartbreaking spree

If the trailer of Jodi Breakers is anything to go by, the film will be a riot, thanks to the unusual casting. Maddy and Bips make a cute on-screen couple and together they make it work for the film.Jodi Breakers seem to be ‘inspired’ from the French film L’arnacœur (Heart Breaker) where the hero is hired by the heroine’s father to stop her from marrying a man he believes is unsuitable for her. The hero is suave and charming, and actually runs a business specialising in breaking up couples. The film which was initially supposed to be a sequel of Tanu Weds Manu but going by the trailer, looks like the makers have come up with something totally different. Did you like the trailer? Tell us!

    Salman, SRK most profitable actors

Mumbai, Jan 6 : Salman Khan has been conferrred The Most Profitable Actor (India) by ETC Bollywood Business Awards, while Shahrukh Khan has bagged for The Most Profitable Actor (Overseas) award.

India’s first Bollywood channel ETC is all set to unveil the second ETC Bollywood Business Awards on 9th January.

Of the approximate 120 films released this year 5 films (Ready, Bodyguard, Singham, RA.One and Don2) saw domestic box office collections of more than INR 100 crores each; while some more, most notably The Dirty Picture (INR 80 cr), Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (INR 92 cr) and Rockstar (INR 67 cr) came close.

This year also included quite a few hits and successes that have raked in the moolah. Bollywood collected a total of INR 1740 crores from the Indian BO. Add the revenue garnered from overseas and satellite rights and it goes up to a whopping INR 2590 crores!

With domestic BO collections of 2 hundred crores plus movies under her belt, Kareena Kapoor emerged as the unquestionable money spinner female actor this year.

“Receiving an award wherein you are being adjudged considering the economic quotient as a cornerstone for mapping the success, gives you a sense of pride. I’ve always maintained that commercial success is as important as the critical success of a movie. A commercially successful movie pays evidence to the fact that viewers loved watching your movie," said Kareena on being presented the ETC Most Profitable Actress Award.

"I appreciate the initiative, ETC Bollywood Business Awards, which recognizes the awardees by evaluating BO performance. I thank my viewers, people who I have worked with and ETC for appreciating my work and giving its due recognition,” she said.

While Salman Khan won the ETC Most Profitable Actor (India) Award, his arch nemesis the King of Bollywood Shahrukh Khan won the ETC Most Profitable Actor (Overseas) Award.

“Now I can safely say ‘har mulk ki public mujhe dhoondti hai’”, quipped the Don Khan, on receiving the ETC Most Profitable Actor (Overseas) Award.

On receiving the ETC Best Marketed Movie of the year Award and the ETC Highest Single Day Collection Award, both for RA.One, SRK said, “RA.One, Bollywood’s most expensive movie was my dream project. It feels great that my long cherished dream has been applauded by the viewers and moreover acknowledged by ETC Bollywood Business Awards; which gives its verdict only on the basis of Box Office collections. These two awards are a reply to all the naysayers who tried to discredit my film.

"Allah has been very kind to me and helped me to entertain my audiences and it is quite literally my audience’s love that has fetched me these awards. Inshallah! I’ll continue to entertain my audiences and make it to this award in years to come.”

Speaking about this unique initiative Anurag Bedi, Business Head, ETC, said, “We started ETC Bollywood Business Awards last year, after having identified the need to evaluate Bollywood on the basis of commerce. From the first look of a film to interacting with actors, directors, producers, marketers, musicians to bringing out BO reports – with every film we undertake a journey as intense as the filmmakers."

ETC Bollywood Business Awards have increased the number of categories from 13 last year to 18 this year.

Innovative categories include Most Popular Trailer, BO Surprise Hit of the Year, and Excellence in International Distribution et al.

Komal Nahta, Host, ETC Bollywood Business, said: “This has been a fine year for Bollywood with 5 films earning upwards of INR 100 cr each and quite a number of hits and successes. This initiative is a just recognition of Bollywood’s achievements and I hope our industry enjoys continued success in 2012!” (IBNS)
