Sanjay Dutt gets nostalgic about Munna Bhai

Even as actor Sanjay Dutt touched new heights as Kancha Cheena in his last release Agneepath earlier this year, the character of Munna Bhai continues to be as close as ever to his heart.

The star admitted that his role as Munna Bhai was the most important in his career. "My career, to my daily life, to my image - everything changed because of Munna Bhai. It is so important," he said.

On March 31, 2011 Sanjay had reached the venue of Vidhu Vinod Chopra film festival in Mumbai to interact with the audience and students after they saw Lage Raho Munna Bhai. He hoped that the third in the series takes off soon.

Director Raju Hirani, in the meantime, decided to put to rest a lot of speculations that have been doing rounds. "It is media's speculation. Sanju is the Munna Bhai and I cannot imagine anyone else playing the character... Sanju is perfect for the role. He is big built and looks like a bhai. Also, Munna Bhai has a good heart and if you look at Sanju, he has an innocent face which makes him lovable," Hirani said.

He however has been looking to start shooting for PK Talli with Aamir Khan next, which means Munna Bhai would not be back for at least about a year.

The real kahaani behind Vidya Balan's stardom

Today Bollywood actress Vidya Balan is touted as the 'Hero' of the industry after giving back-to-back successes. But if you thought her journey to stardom was a cakewalk then you will be surprised to know like any other struggler Vidya had to strive hard to bag her first film i.e. PARINEETA (2005).

The team of PARINEETA - director Pradeep Sarkar, producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra, actors Vidya balan and Raima Sen recently were present to revive the old memories of the film at the ongoing Vidhu Vinod Chopra Film festival (celebrating Vidhu Vinod Chopra's 30 years in the film industry)

Pradeep Sarkar, who made his debut as director with PARINEETA, said, "I knew Vidya as an Ad Film actress. I was trying to catch her since long for an AD. But she constantly refused as she had done one mother's role and didn't really want to repeat. I always saw her as quintessential Indian women. I had a strong urge to work with her."

"...And slowly but surely I had faith that he would make the film with me. He started writing the script. I was part of the entire process. Then he went to Vidhu Vinod Chopra. However when Dada came back to me and said that Mr. Chopra is keen to cast a bigger star I was heartbroken and I thought that was right. But dada gave me hope saying if I am able to show or prove my bit then it may work. So we started with various look tests - western, Indian look, chapta hair, curly hair, one day it was a song test and then another day an emotional scene. It just kept going on and on until I reached a stage where I said I don't care if I get this film or not. I was so fed-up. The moment I gave up is the time when I got the film," says Vidya.

Vidya adds further, "I didn't care they would have cast me opposite a tree in the film and I would have given my all. That was the fire I had in my belly and this was a big opportunity so I didn't want to let go off. I knew I would lay my life for this and I did my best."

Producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra said, "When we thought of PARINEETA I immediately thought of a face like Aishwarya Rai. The moment Pradeep told me about her I said let me check what she can do and then we tested her for like grueling 50-60 times and finally I saw her turning to the camera and abusing me. I had never met her and I had refused to meet her till I saw her test."

"Till you're really desperate to get something you will never get. Your desperation will show. The fact that Vidya desperately wanted to do PARINEETA showed in those 60 tests. When she didn't give her damn that is when she performed. Don't care for success it will automatically follow. And that is how Vidya became Vidya Balan when she stopped caring. The rest is history. So I am very grateful that she sustained those 60 tests and didn't give up...," adds the filmmaker.

Vidya barged in, "...No I am grateful because no one gives that much time to a newcomer. I was so desparate to get it that it was like someone had dangled a carrot on me now whether I get it or not was all that mattered."

Now we know the real kahaani of her stardom!

Salman Khan all for remaking of 'Zanjeer'

Mumbai, Apr 2 (PTI) Although his father, Salim Khan, has strong reservations over the proposed remake of the 70's hit film, 'Zanjeer', Salman Khan is all for remaking this film. 'Zanjeer', a 1973 action film, starring Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan and Pran, was directed by Prakash Mehra. Now Mehra's son, Amit, has announced that he will produce its remake version. Scriptwriters of the 1973 superhit film, Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar are not exactly enthused over the idea and feel that the storyline of the original movie should be retained. Javed Akhtar had said that the sanctity of the film should be maintained and the cult status that the film has created should not be overlooked. Salim's son Salman, however, is fully supportive of the remake idea. "I feel 100 percent ...a remake of 'Zanjeer' should be made. It was a super hit film," Salman told reporters here on the sidelines of event where Yatra.com appointed him as a brand ambassador. "Even 'Don' (Salim Khan was the writer for Amitabh Bachchan starrer 'Don') was remade and a sequel had also come out. My father has never objected...'Don' has been made twice," he said. The 1973 superhit film, 'Zanjeer' had established Amitabh Bachchan as an angry young man. The remake version will be directed by Apoorva Lakhia. There is a buzz that Sanjay Dutt and Sonu Sood have been approached to play the role of antagonist, which was played by Pran in the original film. Besides, names of Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone have cropped up to play the leading lady.

Dhanush’s 3 now in Hindi too

The Dhanush-Shruti Haasan Tamil film, 3, that opens on March 30, will be dubbed and released in Hindi in May. Shruti says that they had no plans of doing this while they were shooting, but the success of Why this Kolaveri Di… opened the door to an all-India market. “And even though it’s set
down South, I’m sure that Ram and Janani’s love story will transcend the language barrier,” asserts Shruti.

Ask whether Kolaveri… will now have a female version sung by her and she negates the idea. “It wouldn’t fit in. Kolaveri… is the life of 3 today, but the film has a soul of its own. There’s another song, Kannazhaga…The kiss of love, where you’ll hear me singing in Hindi too. It’s a duet with Dhanush.”

Even though for the last 665 days, she’s been completely focused on acting, Shruti is a trained musician and lyricist with her own band.

She’s even composed music for the Tamil remake of A Wednesday (200. What’s her take on super singer Dhanush? “For someone who is not trained, he is really good. Kolaveri… is a funny, catchy song about a loser in love. We had a lot of fun recording it, but honestly no one believed it would become such a viral hit. Just goes to show that Twitter, YouTube and Facebook have brought the world closer.”

Meanwhile, Shruti is thrilled that her filmmaker-actor father, Kamal Haasan, who saw 3 at a special screening, liked it. “When both your parents (Kamal and Sarika) are National Award-winning actors, it’s understandable to be a little jittery. I wanted my father to see it not as a parent, but because I respect him as an actor. I would have been very disappointed had he dismissed it. For once, he went beyond Shruti, his daughter, and talked about my character and the film. Now, I’m hoping my mother, who has been very supportive, likes it too.”

Hate story heroines all set to raise the oomph factor

Bong bombshell Paoli Dam's topless snapshots in Vikram Bhatt's upcoming film Hate Story have already grabbed eyeballs, and the film's second heroine Bhairavi Goswami is in no mood to let the newcomer hijack all the limelight.

Sources said Bhairavi, who has been struggling to find a foothold in Bollywood has told Hate Story director Vivek Agnihotri that she wants a special sexy song shot on herself in the film.

She is reportedly willing to go no-holds-barred with oomph in the song. Both Paoli and Bhairavi play seductresses in the film. Let's see who manages to seduce the (male) audience better.

'Hate Story' is an erotica: Vivek Agnihotri

If there is one promo that has managed to shock one and all with its bold and explicit content, it's that of Vivek Agnihotri's 'Hate Story'. Produced by Vikram Bhatt and directed by Agnihotri, the film stars Bengali sensation Paoli Dam along with Nikhil Dwivedi and Gulshan Devaiyah. Bollywood Hungama's Nikhil Ramsubramaniam caught up with Vivek Agnihotri and spoke to him about his boldest film that's sure to raise a few eyebrows in the days to come.

The promos of Hate Story are shocking , scandalous and hits you like a bolt from the blue…what do you have to say about that?

Shocking for the simple reason because Sex has always been considered as a taboo in our society. With time, as society changes, one needs to evolve too. Every society comes to a point when it goes through a transition phase. 'Hate Story' is a first of its kind erotic thriller. We have not explored this genre of erotic thrillers in Hindi films before. The only film that I can think of which comes close to being an erotic thriller is 'Utsav' which was a well made film. But that was a long time back and hence we thought why not come up with an erotic thriller in the modern context.

The promos have been released online but have they been cleared by the Censors to be played in theatres and on TV?

The promos which you see online are uncensored so it's impossible to play the same promo in theatres or on TV channels. Even if the censor board gives the promo an A certificate, I can play it only with films that have got an A certificate. That's why we thought its best to launch the promo online through the digital medium.

I’ll play Munnabhai even when I am 80: Sanjay Dutt

Sanjay Dutt, who plays the title role in director Raju Hirani’s popular Munnabhai franchise, hopes to play the lovable don even when he turns 80. He says, “Vinod (producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra) once told me, “Tu assi saal ka ho jayega then also (even when you turn 80...), I will make
    Munnabhai with you.”

Adding that he was told subsequent films might not include a romantic angle for the loveable don, Sanjay reveals, “I told Vinod, ‘let it be’. I miss Munnabhai and would love to play a ‘tapori’ (vagabond) with a conscience all my life.”

The film franchise, Sanjay says, was responsible for a shift in his public image, which had taken a beating after he was arrested for illegal possession of arms in 1993. He says, “From khalnayak (villain), I became Munnabhai. A role like that comes once in a lifetime. It was not just an inspiration for others; it was a lesson for me as well.”

Before you mind starts racing elsewhere, we'll tell you we are talking about Neetu's new fitness trainer. Well, it's none other celebrity trainer, Stayajit Chorasis, better known as Satya. Now, he is the one who got Aamir Khan, the perfectionist, to look the perfect guy in "Ghajini" after making him pump iron for 13 months, for four hours every day to get that sculpted look for the film.

Neetu, who is a fitness freak herself, has now started training with Satya. "I have started my worked with the great trainer Satya. He is the one who has trained the likes of Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Hrithik Roshan and others," the actress says.

Satya is known to be a strict trainer, and now that Neetu is training under this man, she too swears by this fact. "He killed me today (during the workout)....Wheeew," she says.

Let's just wait and watch what Satya can do to Neetu.
