Box Office Report Card Of 2014, No Growth Over Last Year But Last Month Is Crucial
Tomorrow last quarter of 2014 will kick off and there are line up of some real potential blockbusters. 2014 was not a great year at box office and there is almost no growth in overall business in first 9 months despite bigger promotions and higher ticket price.
There was back to back distinct growth in 2012 and 2013 over previous years but 2014 looks to finish in the same range as 2013. This year should have seen better performance as 2 Salman Khan starrers, one each from Shahrukh and Aamir, one biggie from Hrithik, one form Rohit - Ajay combo and couple of Akshay Kumar starrers hit the screens. But even 850 - 900 cr nett in last quarter can take it to close to 2013 total. Following is the year wise comparison of business of Hindi film box office -

In first 11 months, we had only one blockbuster, one big hit and handful of medium range hits. Though surprise hits like 'Queen' and 'Ragini MMS 2' did score at box office but then these films do not change the bigger picture. November proved to be a disastrous month as all promising films 'The Shaukeens', 'Kill Dil' and 'Happy Ending' flopped badly. Though 'Action Jackson' failed to impress but 'PK' proved to be another winner at box office from Aamir Khan and Hirani combo. Film is set to become 1st 300 cr nett domestic grosser and highest grosser overseas too.

The Top Five for 2015
The year 2014 has turned out a poor one and there will be hopes that 2015 is a better one butagain the first half does not have much to offer in terms of blockbsuters but there are some very big releases from Eid onewards. The top five for the year are as follows
1. Rohit Shetty directed untitled Shahrukh KhanStarrerDecember 2015
2. Prem Ratan Dhan PayoNovember 2015
3. Bajrangi BhaijaanJuly 2015
4. BrothersJuly 2015
5. FanAugust 2015
The above films seem the best bets of the year and all have the potential to go over 150 crore nett with the top two being 200 plus films although potential and actually putting up numbers are two different things. There may bea film or two that surprises but the recent yearshave seen very few surprises in terms of real big grossers.
