Dabangg, #Ready, #Bodyguard: Khan set for hattrick! ” @BeingSalmanKhan is looking to continue his winning streak …!
Aug 31, 2011
New Delhi: Chulbul Pandey may have almost become his alter ego, but star performer Salman Khan is looking to continue his winning streak in the skin of Lovely Singh in his romantic comedy Bodyguard that hits theatres on Eid-ul-Fitr on Wednesday.
Both of his major hits Dabangg and Wanted, released on Eid, went on to become phenomenal successes. Though Ready wasn’t an Eid release, it was harbinger of times to come. Khan has gradually moved away medium budget productions and carefully built a larger-than-life image that mainly speaks to his semi-urban audience base.
The incurable romantic of Ready will see some serious action sequences in pure Rajinikanth style in director Siddique’s Bodyguard that also stars Kareena Kapoor in the lead.

Bodyguard is the Hindi remake of the Malayalam film of the same name. It is being co-produced by Atul Agnihotri and Reliance Entertainment. The makers have set up a marketing and print budget of around Rs 22 crore.
Khan plays Lovely Singh, a personal guard to Divya played by Kareena Kapoor, the daughter of a business tycoon. Tired of having her every step tracked by a watchful Khan, Kareena embarks upon a plan to make the beefy bodyguard fall in love with her in the hope that he will leave her alone.
The promotional events had Khan’s real life bodyguard Shera playing a big part. He also appeared in one of Khan’s songs “Aaya re aaya bodyguard”. Though Ready is a huge hit of the year, Khan’s chemistry with southern actor Asin left much to be desired. It remains to be seen how Kareena hits it off with the actor.
But for all the hype surrounding the film, Khan is currently away in the US to treat a medical condition that is causing him acute pain in his head, cheeks and jaws and will be missing the fanfare leading up to the film’s release.
In medical parlance Khan’s ailment is called trigeminal neuralgia and aneurysm. He has left for the US to undergo treatment.
According to reports, the advance bookings for the film has had the cash registers ringing and multiplex owners hoping that the mid-week celebrations will continue till the weekend.
“We had opened the advance bookings for the film yesterday (Monday) and so far it has been really good. If we combine the online bookings and the ticket counter bookings, the figure comes to around 65 percent,” said Amit Shah, chief manager (programming) of DLF DT cinemas.
“The advance booking for the film is much beyond our expectations. Considering the fact it is releasing mid-week, we have already sold around 45 per cent tickets for tomorrow (Wednesday) and it seems like weekend is going to be equally heavy,” Gautam Dutta, COO of PVR ltd said. “After a long time we are seeing such enthusiasm among people. The response is just fantastic,” he added.
Puneet Sahay senior manager for programming and operations at Spice Cinemas says they have already “covered 35 percent of seats which includes the online booking.”
There were some issues between the multiplexes and distributors of the film regarding revenue sharing. The distributors were asking for more revenue sharing but the issues have been resolved. (With additional information from IANS)

Quick Q&A with @BeingSalmanKhan on pain, gain, and #Bodyguard; “Bodyguard is a beautiful love story” - Salman Khan
Devansh Patel, August 30, 2011

Any actor who thinks he is a sex symbol has got a serious problem. He’s the Bandra lad whose good looks and deadpan delivery has made him one of Indian Film Industry’s biggest and the most bankable star at the box office. Then there are those who take Salman seriously and those who don’t. The truth is that he does the same - he takes you in for a ride or he leaves you midway stranded. Then there is his illness and the entire country praying for him. The truth is that he doesn’t care and in his trademark style quotes, “I’m alright. I’m fine. It’s just that I had some short circuit in my head”. That’s when you start to respect the man for not being a star but Salman Khan. He still has the noticeable ‘bhai’ burr and a slight roughness around the edges but everything else about him screams ‘superstar’. I meet the actor at Mehboob studio just hours before he was supposed to travel to the U.S. for his treatment. With his black polo neck t-shirt with ‘Bodyguard’ printed on it and his favourite denim and black boots, Khan looked as if he cared the least about who is on the other side interviewing him. I come to know that because he stared at me with unnerving focus, and after a brief pause he smiles but doesn’t make an eye contact with you. He then gets up, lights his cigarette, chats with few of his friends who’ve accompanied him at Mehboob while his bodyguards make sure that no stranger enters his domain. All said but beneath the shiny varnish of his fame and wealth and super power status, there is something appealing about Salman’s belief that he could just as easily have turned out doing something altogether more normal. There goes his humour again, “I still haven’t figured that out because I’m just normal”. UK’s Harrow Observer columnist and Bollywood Hungama’s London correspondent brings you a quick Q n A with Salman Khan on pain, gain and Bodyguard.
“My earlier two films with Kareena didn’t work so hope this time the chemistry changes”
I don’t know how my chemistry with Kareena is. Actually she can tell you much better (laughs). But honestly, we’ve worked together on two films earlier Kyun Ki and Main Aur Mrs Khanna that didn’t do well at the box office. So hope the chemistry changes this time around (smiles).
“I had heard of the Bodyguard script when the film was in the making down South”
Yes, Bodyguard is a remake but it’s very different as far as characters are concerned. The only character that the director has retained is that of Bebo’s. A lot has changed. The whole feel of the movie is altered. I had heard of the Bodyguard script when the film was in the making down South. Atul narrated me the story and he wanted to take the rights.
“Bodyguard is a beautiful love story that I’m doing after a lot of action films that have kept me busy”
I don’t believe that I am doing all the same kinds of movies. Wanted was different than Dabangg. Dabangg was different from Ready and so is Bodyguard different from all the ones I’ve mentioned. It’s just that because the action is the same, people think that I do similar roles but it’s not the truth. Bodyguard is a beautiful love story that I’m doing after a lot of action films that have kept me busy.
“Kareena has been promoting the film as this is my best love story since Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam”
Kareena has been promoting the film as this is my best love story since Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. I’m surprised (laughs). I can’t comment on that because it’s her take. It’s a compliment but I think this is way different than that. Kareena is one of the best actresses I’ve worked with. I’ve also enjoyed working with her sister Lolo who is a dear friend too.
“I like doing movies that I like to watch as an audience”
I like doing movies that I like to watch as an audience. I will never do a movie that someone else liked it and recommended me. The audience’s reaction is all what matters to me. That’s my award. Bodyguard was originally from the South but because I thought that I’d like to see this film from an audience’s perspective. I always do and I will keep on doing just that.
“I’ve not asked Shera for any feedback on how I should do my role”
My character of Bodyguard was scripted and not researched. So why would I want Shera to inform me how to look and how to act. Tomorrow if I do a film called ‘Driver’ I will never ask my driver for tips. I follow scripts and that’s it. If the director wishes to change anything then we talk it out and I give my inputs sometime. Like the idea of the bodyguard wearing a Bluetooth was mine. That’s how today bodyguards look like, right?
“I’d like to believe that songs are the highlight of this movie too”
The songs are becoming a rage, especially the title track that people are dancing on. Kids too love the song. Then there is ‘Teri Meri’ that’s a beautiful rendition. That’s one of my favourites too. Yes, I’d like to believe that songs are the highlight of this movie too.
“I am perfectly fine. It’s just that I had a short circuit in my nerve”
If I wasn’t fine I wouldn’t have been giving you this interview. Yes, I am going to get this treated and by that time my film would’ve released. I am taking precautions and will soon get it cured, don’t worry. No pain no gain as they say.

Reflections - Why shy away my dear? @BeingSalmanKhan Bro ROX! God Bless Hm!!
Joginder Tuteja | August 29, 2011
A comment from a journo friend of mine prompted me to key down this piece. He said - ‘Look at the way Salman is promoting Bodyguard. He knows this is a sure shot blockbuster in the making and hence is spending so much time and energy into it’. He is leaving no stone unturned despite the fact that he is ill. Promotion ho toh aisi; Salman has changed.’
‘Changed? Really’, I exclaimed, ‘But I think he was always there for his movies. Remember Shaadi Karke Phas Gaya Yaar. Errr it’s okay if you don’t because most won’t. But then even for that stuck-in-the-cans-for-years film, he went out of his promote it for his dear friend Shilpa Shetty.’
But then there are exceptions for sure. Many in the business have stayed away from those films which they believe are either badly made or dated way beyond the point of any redemption. In this week’s ‘Reflections’, let’s look at many such instances and what really led a star to stay away instead of being sorry.
And sometimes these prayers indeed come true
Ever heard of an Amitabh Bachchan-Dharmendra-Dimple Kapadia film titled Hum Kaun Hai? This rehash of The Others wasn’t even known to the industry, leave aside the industry. Priyanka Chopra had actually played Suniel Shetty’s wife in a film called Blackmail which had Ajay Devgn in a negative role. What started off as a cameo in brother Arbaaz Khan’s Prem Kaa Game turned into a full-on ‘sutradhar’ appearance for Salman Khan who was at his worst disinterested self in those 5-6 scenes and a music video that followed. Saif’s much delayed Sanam Teri Kasam with none less than Pooja Bhatt released 15 years after going on floors and couldn’t even sustain itself for 15 shows. Even Pooja Bhatt chose not to speak.

(Interview) “ #Bodyguard will appeal the most to those who are waiting to see me back in a film like Maine Pyaar Kiya.” – @BeingSalmanKhan
Stacey Yount | August 30th, 2011

Salman Khan. His name is synonymous with Hindi Masala cinema and blockbuster films. This actor can do action, he can do comedy, he can do drama, and he can even do all three at the same time. He can dance and he most definitely can romance and it is all done in that Sallu signature style that make audiences whistle and clap. With Bodyguard, he once again delves into this genre and brings to the screen all that filmi goodness, but from what we hear, he even adds a few surprises as well! Directed by Siddique, Bodyguard is the third version of the film. It is a remake of the original Malayalam film that was also made in Tamil. Both were huge box-office successes. The action-romance, which also stars Kareena Kapoor, is set to release in theaters on Eid and is predicted to be another smash hit. In the film, Salman plays Lovely Singh, a young man who takes his job as bodyguard to Kareena’s Divya very seriously. However, his constant presence cramps Divya’s college fun and she hatches a plan to distract him by pretending to be a different girl on the phone to try to get him to fall in love. He does, of course, but then she does too, of course. But, of course, there is the drama and action and Lovely Singh finds himself ensnared in a web of lies, trickery and deceit. Bodyguard is the story of conflict- between innocence and mischief, love and power, and life and death!
Although in a lot of pain and getting ready to go to the US for surgery and in the midst of final promotions for the film, Mr. Khan took time out of his very busy schedule to give fabulous answers to our questions. Read on to see what he has to say about the film, working with Kareena, and what still excites him about acting!
Although in a lot of pain and getting ready to go to the US for surgery and in the midst of final promotions for the film, Mr. Khan took time out of his very busy schedule to give fabulous answers to our questions. Read on to see what he has to say about the film, working with Kareena, and what still excites him about acting!
What goes into your decision to do a role in a film?
If I like the script, and if I believe that I can do justice to the role, I proceed with the film. For Bodyguard, I was shown the south Indian versions of the film before taking up the project. It was then that I really liked the script and chose to play Lovely Singh.

What was it about Lovely Singh that made you want to play him?
Lovely Singh is a strong character in the film. There were drastic changes in the characterization as compared to the Malayalam and Tamil versions. The character that I play manages to pull off comedy, action, romance, and drama very well so I felt it’s a powerful role and something different from what I have done in the past.
What goes into your preparation for your roles?
I do not have any specific preparations in place for the characters I play on screen, as I prefer sticking to my style of acting.
What do you think you and Kareena Kapoor bring out in each other as actors?
It has always been a pleasure to work with Kareena. She comes across as a thorough professional and is a lovely lady. She also carries an immensely powerful sense of acting. I have known Kareena since childhood. I just have to forget she is Lolo’s (Karishma’s sister, with whom I have worked for a long time) sister for a few seconds while we are in front of the camera and she makes our chemistry look effortless on screen. And I guess she believes I let her be her own self and that catapults her acting.
Tell us about working with the director Siddique.
He is very experienced and brought a lot of fresh insights with him. Though this film is the remake of the Malayalam version there are a few alterations in the Hindi version of the character that I play and Siddique has put a lot of efforts into bringing this film to the audience. It was fun working with him and we shared a remarkable level of comfort.
Do you have a favorite song on the soundtrack?
Title track of Bodyguard.
What still excites you about being an actor?
Every time a movie works, the expectations always increase. The hype is always bigger. From music, to acting, to dancing, people always have bigger expectations. I have to go one notch above my previous performance so that I can keep my fans happy.
What are audiences going to love about Bodyguard?
I think it is an innocent love story; it is a mix of action and romance. Probably this will appeal the most to who are waiting see me back in a film like Maine Pyaar Kiya. It is a good balance of emotions, romance, action and drama. It’s something very different than I have done after a long a time. Audiences can expect a lot of surprises from this film.
Can you see going behind the camera to direct?
Right now I am happy with what I am doing. No plans of directing as of now.
Hindi cinema is making its way into the world. Please give us your thoughts on that.
It’s good that the Hindi cinema is progressing. Being a part of Bollywood, the industry’s advancement into every corner of the world will bring happiness to me and many more.
What does your fan’s support mean to you?
I have always intended to entertain my fans with my work and in return if they like the film and the response is good, I feel extremely satisfied. I believe the audience is the real critic. I feel overwhelmed when they like me in the films. Being loved by so many fans would make anybody feel on the top of the world and that is what it does to me.

SRK's Bodyguard skips felicitation ceremony!
Shah Rukh Khan doesn’t seem to be in a mood to bury the hatchet he holds with one time buddy Salman. What makes us say that, is the fact that despite being invited by the makers of ‘Bodyguard’; SRK’s bodyguard dutifully chose to skip the ceremony, where Kareena Kapoor felicitated the bodyguards of all the superstars.
No sooner did the ceremony end, than the media pounced on Kareena to enquire about the absence of SRK’s bodyguard. “Well, I’m sure we have invited SRK’s bodyguard too like others, but it seems he is busy safeguarding his master’s body and that’s why he didn’t turn up,” revealed Kareena.
Bebo awarded the bodyguards of Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Akshay Kumar and Hrithik Roshan. She also gave clarifications about the non-appearance of Salman’s bodyguard owing to latter’s bad health.
