The top opening at single screens for the noon shows this year are as follows. Don 2 and Singham were similar but Don 2 has been placed ahead as it had extra volume. The two Salman starrers Bodyguard and Ready have taken the best single screen openings this year.

During 2011, five movies crossed the Rs100 crore collection mark and also established Salman Khan and Kareen Kapoor as toppers in Bollywood.
For Bollywood, 2011 proved to be a beneficial year, after having witnessed a large number of flops in 2010. Unlike other years, where we see only a couple of big hits and some cult successes, 2011 saw five movies that crossed the Rs100 crore collection mark; and even saw a path breaking niche film become one of the top grosser of the year. But on top of it all, 2011 marked the revival of the small screen.
Till 2010, filmmakers counted on the multiplexes. Lot of experiments happened, but apart for Aamir Khan’s 3 Idiots, none of them paid off. However, taking a cue from the success of Dabaang, some decided to return to the ‘masala’ roots and emerged with flying colours.
Next came Ready, which marked the beginning of Salman Khan’s triumph in 2011. Riding high on the success of Wanted and Dabaang, Salman’s movies like Ready and Bodyguard broke all records at the box office. Especially, Bodyguard, which was produced on a budget of Rs60 crore, became the biggest opening day grosser, then highest opening week grosser and with a collection of Rs229 crore, so far became the biggest Hindi box office hit in India. It also beat Singham’s TVR ratings with a TRP of 10.0 to become the most watched over film on Indian television.

Salman Khan became the highest paid actor in Bollywood, rumoured to be now naming Rs50 crore as fees. Bodyguard belle Kareena Kapoor too, became the highest paid actress. She also replaced Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in Madhur Bhandarkar’s upcoming movie Heroine for which she will get a share in its profits, a first for an actress in the Hindi film industry.
In coming year there are some big releases lined up. The most talked about film Agneepath, will mark the return of Hritik Roshan and Sanjay Dutt. Salman Khan’s Ek Tha Tiger, Aamir’s Dhoom3 and tentatively titled The Act of Murder, Priyanka Chopra-Ranbir Kapoor starrer Barfee and sequels to Krrish, Housefull and Ready are slated for release in 2012.

Where there is a Salman Khan, there is bound to be truck-loads of tamasha. The temperamental Khan who was in the city for the CCL curtain raiser, kept the entertainment quotient in his “Bollywood only” party high with an impromptu arm wrestling match between Shera, his favorite bodyguard and Mohd. Rafeeq, a bouncer from the city, who was part of his security cover for the evening.
“Salman bhai saw me standing with the other bouncers, walked up to me and said, ‘Biceps acha hain tera, arm wrestling karta kya?’ And before I could react, he called his favorite bodyguard Shera and asked him to arm wrestle me.”
With his massive 19-inch biceps, Rafeeq, who confesses that he’s an ardent Sallu fan, effortlessly managed to defeat Shera in the first round of arm wrestling. “I won, but Shera joked about how I cheated, so Salman bhai asked us to go on for another round just to prove a point. I was anxious about rubbing them on the wrong side and I told him I will lose. but he told me, ‘Agar tu mera fan hain, toh Shera ko hara ke dikha.’ Prove to him ki tere muscles mein hawa nahi bhari hui hain.” Bhai said that, so I had to defeat Shera again,” says Rafeeq, who admits that he was scared of Shera initially.
Not one to be satisfied easily, Sallu then called his brother Sohail Khan and challenged him to defeat Rafeeq. Sohail, who was in no mood to accept the challenge, tried to bribe the young man with ` 5,000 and asked him to let him win. Md. Abrar, owner of the Kings Group security agency, says, “Salman bhai was cross when he saw that and said no one would cheat. he then summoned Rafeeq and said he will take up the challenge himself. That’s when I gestured and told Rafeeq to take it easy and let bhai win.”
Bhai however, would have it only his way. He pulled the star-struck Rafeeq closer and asked him to put up a true fight, failing which, he threatened to bash him up. “Salman bhai was joking of course. He took his bracelet off, and I took out mine (Rafeeq wears a bracelet that looks identical to the one Salman sports). Soon, I was able to defeat bhai. He was in a very happy mood; he hugged me tight and said I am a strong man. But if you ask me, I think bhai let me win on purpose just to make me happy,” says an excited Rafeeq, who refused to wash his hand for a good 24 hours after this encounter with his screen idol.
“Salman Khan has been my inspiration always. I started building my body and working out only after watching him in films. My dream is to become his bodyguard. I couldn’t have been happier.”
The audience, who cheered the 24-year-old Old City boy as he defeated Salman Khan, included the likes of Suneil Shetty, Sohail Khan, Kangna Ranaut, Shriya Saran, Genelia D’Souza, Riteish Deshmukh and Neha Dhupia. In high spirits, Sallu then had the bright idea of starting a friendly cat-fight by asking the ladies to arm wrestle each other. And since saying no to Salman is not an option, the ladies joined in the fun. “Kangna and Shriya were pitted against each other, and Kangna won. Then Genelia and Neha Dhupia got into a match with Neha defeating the petite Genelia,” reveals a source present at the party.

Mumbai: Controversial ‘Bigg Boss’ contestant Pooja Misrra has alleged favouritism on the show for evicted model-actress Mahek Chahal, who is likely to make an entry into the house again on a wild card.
Mahek was evicted from the show on December 11. Also, there were allegations by other contestants that she was favoured by the show’s host, Salman Khan. The 32-year-old has worked with Salman in films like ‘Wanted’ and ‘Main Aurr Mrs Khanna’. Meanwhile, flouting the rules of the show, that contestants are not allowed to organise any press conference before the finale, Pooja went ahead and send invitations to media saying she wants to expose Khan.
When asked, if she was pressurised by producers to hold a press conference, Pooja says, “Yes, I was asked whether this conference is happening or not. They said it would be better if this is not arranged before December 24. But all the media personnel were invited so I couldn’t back out.
On the Mahek-Salman connection, Pooja said, “Mahek is definitely after him, I don’t know whether Salman is or not. Every conversation of her would have Salman’s name and because of this everyone in the house used to be scared of her. It was like everyone has to be good to her to survive the game.”
Pooja feels the footage where Mahek is seen excessively talking about Salman have been done away with. “She hasn’t been shown using his name persistently so I guess it is correct that the footage was edited,” she said.
On whether she found any favouritism on the part of Salman, she said, “He is the host of the show and he only says what he is made to by the crew. As far as his behaviour is concerned he has always been very kind to everybody.”
