Masala films will die, everybody has overdone it: Salman

Salman Khan is well aware that the trend of masala films will soon die a slow death, as the genre has been overdone by filmmakers in the Hindi film industry. While Chennai Express created history at the box office both in India and the overseas markets, quite a few masala mass-entertainers like Himmatwala, Ramaiya Vastavaiya and Phata Poster Nikhla Hero have failed to excite the audience.

“This space (masala films) will die totally. I think this was a beautiful format where we had films like ‘Wanted’, Dabangg etc. Now everybody has overdone it so much that it might die away. These kinds of films are popular but the creativity is becoming less… It seems the same stuff is happening. I don’t know which genre will click now. The whole thing where one person beating up 50 people and them flying around will remain as this is part of our cinema. But there is a reason why and how he is beating. Now, the way action is done will change” Salman told PTI.

Khan also spoke about his upcoming films, promising the audience a different experience with each outing. While Jai Ho is a social drama, Kick is expected to be an out-an-out action film. The other much-awaited film on family values and romance will reunite the Hum Aapke Hain Kaun actor-director duo of Salman and Sooraj Barjatya.

“Jai Ho will be different kind of film altogether it has all the ingredients — drama, emotion etc. Kick is also a very different film. Again, Sooraj asked me to do a film for them, he gave me the idea and I loved it. It was a great script I had not worked with him since long” Salman added.

Salman Khan to team up with Ram Charan



Bouncing back quickly from the debacle of 'Zanjeer' and its Telugu version 'Thoofan', Ram Charan will now team up with Salman Khan for a film that would be produced by Salman Khan.

Ram Charan flew from Hyderabad on Tuesday to meet Salman. The two had a hush-hush meeting over lunch at Salman's home in Mumbai where it was decided that the two stars would come together for a film. Sohail Khan was also present at the meeting.

When contacted Ram Charan admitted, "Yes, I was in Mumbai. I had come to meet Salman. We are working on a project together."

Ram Charan gives Salman a clean chit in the whole Zanjeer copyright controversy where Salman's father writer Salim Khan joined hands with his former partner Javed Akhtar to sue the new Zanjeer makers for copyright infringement

Says Ram defensively, "Salman really couldn't intervene in the matter. It was a matter involving the Writers' Association. He couldn't say anything beyond a point. Even Salim Khan Saab was very supportive. It's just that he had to stand by Javed Akhtar Saab, or the writers' community would have been offended. But to be honest they were fighting for a film that wasn't anything like theirs."

Ram Charan seems to have bounced back after the double debacle last week.Jokes the affable star, "Apoorva Lakhia and I need to sit down and make a list of the 10 reasons why Zanjeer didn't work. It really doesn't matter anymore. I've already moved on to my next project in Telugu. It's called Yevadu. And it releases for Dussehra on October 10. That's a full-on action thriller. My fans like to see me fight. They rejected Thoofan because most of the time I was just angry and seething silently. That's not how they like to see me."

Now with the project with Salman happening, Ram Charan is upbeat about his Hindi career. "I've nowhere to go but ahead since I've touched rock-bottom with Zanjeer. Actually I had things much too easy so far. My life and my career were like a fairytale. I think I needed to be jolted."

Two Films In One Go For Salman



Lately, Salman Khan has been working on one film at a time but it seems all that will change very soon, when he starts working on two films simultaneously.

He’s finished shooting for Sohail Khan’s next film Jai Ho, which is expected to release in January 2014, and soon he will complete shooting for Sajid Nadiadwala’s Kick, which will release during Eid 2014.

Once Khan is done with Kick, he will be shooting two films in one go – Sooraj Barjatya’s next film yet untitled and Anees Bazmee’s No Entry sequel.

After these two, Khan will start working on another film to be produced by Atul Agnihotri.
