RECIFE, Brazil (AP) - Robinho and Nilmar scored in an eight-minute period either side of halftime as Brazil rallied for a 2-1 win over Paraguay on Wednesday and move a step closer to a place at the 2010 World Cup.

The five-time World Cup champion leads the 10-team South American qualifying group with four matches remaining.
But it had to withstand a worrying start from Paraguay, which opened the scoring in the 26th minute via Salvador Cabanas - only the sixth goal against the Brazilians in 14 qualifiers.
Robinho equalized in the 41st minute and Nilmar made it 2-1 in the 49th.
Brazil has 27 points in qualifying - one ahead of Chile - and is the only team to have played in every World Cup finals. Brazil's next match is Sept. 5 at archrival Argentina.
"They were three important points, now we hope to beat Argentina in the next match to seal the qualification," Robinho said.
Brazil coach Carlos Dunga, a defensive midfielder in his playing days who seems to have turned Brazil into a cohesive unit, took the victory in his stride.
"My main aim and that of the national side is to qualify for the World Club, and we still need three points to do that," he said.
Brazil tried to control possession in the early exchanges with Robinho floating behind the strikers, and defender Daniel Alves raiding down the wing with Gilberto Silva sitting in front of the defense.
Paraguay started with three central defenders and five midfielders, relying on counterattacks centered on lone striker Cabanas.
A free kick from Cabanas deflected off Elano and past Brazil goalkeeper Julio Cesar.
With new Real Madrid signing Kaka closely marked, Brazil struggled to break down the Paraguay defense, but the resistance was overcome when Alves crossed to the back post for Robinho to score in the 41st.
Kaka, who this week moved from AC Milan to Real Madrid in a transfer estimated at $92 million, tipped his hat to the fans in Recife.
"I want to dedicate this victory to the followers in the Pernambucano (stadium) for the love and support they showed in the more difficult moments of the match," he said.
Brazil took the lead soon after the break when Nilmar held off his marker to convert a high cross from Felipe Melo.
Brazil penned the Paraguayans back for most of the second half, coping comfortably with the sporadic counterattacks. Alexandre Pato, who replaced Nilmar in the second half, missed a glaring opportunity in the closing stages to add a third goal.
Ecuador upsets Argentina 2-0 in World Cup qualifier
QUITO, Ecuador (AP) - Argentina's bid to qualify for next year's World Cup took a hit in a 2-0 loss to Ecuador on Wednesday.
The goals came from Walter Ayovi in the 72nd minute and Pablo Palacios in the 84th.

Two-time World Cup champion Argentina remained in the top four in South America's standings. The top four advance automatically to next year's finals in South Africa. Ecuador improved to 20 points, two fewer than Argentina.
This is the third straight lackluster result for Argentina and calls into question the coaching of Diego Maradona, who took over in November. In the last three games, Argentina lost 6-1 at Bolivia and defeated Colombia 1-0 on Saturday.
Maradona tried to sound upbeat.
"Looking at the effort that this group put out today, we're going to qualify for South Africa," he said. "But in football when you don't score you pay for it. I have no criticism of my players. They did all I asked."
He went as far as to say his players had played "spectacularly."
"But we came away empty-handed."
Ecuador defeated Peru 2-1 on Sunday and added another three points against Argentina, giving the team some hope of reaching a third consecutive South Africa.
"We have picked up two important victories in the last few days to keep up our hopes of reaching the World Cup," Ecuador coach Sixto Vizuete said.
Quito's altitude of 2,850 meters (9,300 feet) seemed to bother Argentina, just as the altitude in La Paz - 3,650 meters (12,000 feet) - did in April.
Ayovi scored on a powerful left-footed shot that beat goalkeeper Mariano Andujar, and Palacios scored coming off the bench on a ball that Argentina's defense failed to clear.
Carlos Tevez had a chance to give Argentina a 1-0 lead in the 29th on a penalty, but he was blocked by keeper Marcelo Elizaga, who was born in Argentina.
Argentina had its best shots in the first half with Lionel Messi and fellow striker Tevez each having chances. Ecuador dominated the second half.
Maradona chose to play Messi, who entered the game with a yellow card and faced suspension if he got another. He did not, with Argentina's next qualifier at home on Sept. 5 against archrival Brazil.
Lineups:
Ecuador: Marcelo Elizaga, Neicer Reasco, Ivan Hurtado, Giovanny Espinoza, Walter Ayovi, Segundo Catillo, Antonio Valencia, Cristian Noboa (Pablo Palacios, 45), Edison Mendez, Felipe Caicedo (Joffre Guerron, 79),Carlos Tenorio (Jefferson Montero, 13). Argentina: Mariano Andujar, Javier Zanetti, Martin Demichelis, Nicolas Otamendi, Gabriel Heinze (Gabriel Milito, 82), Fernando Gago (Juan Sebastian Veron, 75), Sebastian Battaglia, Maximiliano Rodriguez, Jonas Gutierrez, Lionel Messi, Carlos Tevez (Gonzalo Bergessio, 67).
Man Utd accept 80m Ronaldo bid
Manchester United have accepted an offer of 80m from Real Madrid for Cristiano Ronaldo.
"United have agreed to give Real Madrid permission to talk to the player," said a statement from the English club.
It added that the decision followed "Cristiano's request - who has again expressed his desire to leave".
United described the offer for the 24-year-old as unconditional and added that they expected the matter to be concluded by 30 June.
More to follow.
