Maradona could return as boss

Door not closed on Argentina legend, according to team director



Diego Maradona could return to the role of Argentina coach after national team director Carlos Bilardo refused to rule out discussions.
The Argentinian Football Association (AFA) has not renewed the 1986 World Cup winner's contract after he managed his country at this summer's finals.
A decision was made after Maradona suffered a disagreement with the AFA and president Julio Grondona regarding changes that the governing body wanted to make to his coaching staff.
But the 49-year-old has not been ruled out of contention for the future as Bilardo has revealed that a list of possible successors has yet to be formed.
"If Diego comes and talks, I don't know what can happen. It's all a question of talking," Bilardo told news channel Todo Noticias.

Outcome
"I would not close any door. We are awaiting the outcome. Anything can happen.
"My job is to suggest people who can work and then the executive committee are those who decide. But we still have not talked with anyone or come up with anyone's names.
"The possibility of another meeting (between Maradona and the AFA) exists."
Maradona's side suffered a humiliating defeat to Germany in the quarter-finals of the World Cup this summer.
Argentina's next game is a friendly against Republic of Ireland on 11th August in Dublin, and current Under 20 boss Sergio Batista has been placed in temporary charge for the fixture.

Kenny Huang's Liverpool buy-up inches closer as talks with Anfield chiefs gather pace

Kenny Huang's proposed takeover of Liverpool gathered momentum on Tuesday night as he continued negotiations with Anfield chiefs and made it clear he would sail through stringent new Premier League rules on club ownership.

Despite his opening offer falling way short of the £600million being sought by owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett, the billionaire businessman made further progress in his efforts to win boardroom support.

He has contacted Liverpool's bankers RBS with an offer to pay the club's £237m debt and go up to £320m to wrest control from Hicks and Gillett, who have yet to respond.

An end to the Americans' reign appears close after the Premier League were alerted to a possible change of ownership. In a move prompted by Portsmouth's plight, prospective owners must now give the League 10 days' notice of a takeover and prove they have the funds to sustain the club.

It is understood a number of other parties have also contacted the League to alert them a change of ownership could be imminent.

But sources close to the head of Hong Kong investment company QSL Sports insist Huang is the only one holding serious negotiations.

Prospective owners will need to have a meeting with League chiefs to convince them of their financial worth and prove they are up to date with their tax payments.

As a leading basketball and baseball administrator in China, as well as having the wealth of his state-backed investment fund partners to call on, Huang has no concerns over League rules.
