    Maradona predicts Mourinho Euro glory

Former Argentina coach Diego Maradona attended training at Real Madrid today at the club's Valdebebas complex just outside the Spanish capital, taking the opportunity to talk with Los Meringues' coach Jose Mourinho.
Mourinho and Maradona chatted on the sidelines during the quarter of an hour that the session was open to the press and after the former FIFA World Cup™-winner spoke of his expectation that they Spanish giants would find success in Europe with the Portuguese coach.
"He will give Real Madrid the Champions League title", he said. "You have to give Mourinho time so that the players can understand what he wants. That's what happened at Inter and the Italians won the European Cup after a more than 50-year gap. If they wait for Mourinho, I am convinced he will give Real Madrid the Champions League in a short space of time," Maradona told Real's website.
Mourinho won his first European title with Porto in his native Portugal in 2004 before moving to Chelsea, where, while unable to succeed in Europe nonetheless delivered back-to-back English Premier League titles - the Londoners' first in half a century.
He then joined Inter and last May joined Ernst Happel and Ottmar Hitzfeld as the only coaches to win the European Cup with two different sides as the Milanese pulled off an unprecedented treble which also included the Serie A title and Italian Cup.

You have to give Mourinho time so that the players can understand what he wants. That's what happened at Inter and the Italians won the European Cup.
    Diego Maradona, former Argentinan international

He ex-Argentina manager added: "Mourinho is above criticism - his methods are sensational. He allows the players to enjoy themselves but when he has to use the iron fist he does so and when he has to gee up the team on the field he knows how to do so better than anybody."
Maradona also said he believed that since the Portuguese had arrived last summer, he had created "a great camaraderie among the players (which) is down to Mourinho. The training that I saw everyone wanted to play. This is the healthy competition (for places) which Mourinho is creating at Real Madrid."
The club have won a record nine European Cups but their last came eight years ago when French maestro Zinedine Zidane scored a sizzling winner against Germany's Bayer Leverkusen. Since then, other 'galacticos' such as David Beckham and Ronaldo have come and gone without the club excelling in European competition - Real have not even reached the UEFA Champions League semi-finals since.
Maradona said he was looking forward to a finely-balanced 29 November 'clasico' between unbeaten Real and Barcelona, who trail the capital club by a single point after 11 games.
Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo meanwhile trained with strapping on a calf strain suffered in Wednesday's friendly international win over Spain in Lisbon. The injury may keep the former Manchester United star out of tomorrow's meeting with Athletic Bilbao.

The Indian FA I hope will take the right message from this woeful run of form. We need to start at the grass roots, i.e we need to have a youth system in place modeled perhaps on the one of great clubs with coaching starting at an early age. I'm sure there will be no shortage of passion for the game in India especially with players like Messi to look up too. Having said this the journey for India is just beginning but I'm sure they can be a force in world soccer in time.

Balotelli: I can't fight racism on my own

Italy striker Mario Balotelli has called on everyone to join the fight against racism after he was abused by both sets of supporters during an international friendly in Austria. Italy and Romania drew 1-1 in Klagenfurt on Wednesday night but the game caught the headlines for the treatment of the Manchester City forward.
Romanian fans jeered him while his own supporters held up a banner saying: 'No to a multi-cultural Italy'. Italian police gave the names of 41 members of a right-wing group called 'Ultras Italy' to Austrian police, who may press charges.
Speaking to Sky TV, the Italian of Ghanaian parentage said: "On my own I can't do anything, everyone has to do something against racism. Last night I was very disappointed but I'll say it again, I'm not the one who can make these people change.
"Brescia is my city and I live well there but it's also a difficult place, when I was young many kids attacked me because of the colour of my skin. What happened yesterday is racism but it's also the stupidity of a few people. I'm sure that if any one of them met me personally, they'd ask for my autograph. That's another reason I prefer to keep quiet and not say anything this time."

On my own I can't do anything, everyone has to do something against racism. Last night I was very disappointed but I'll say it again, I'm not the one who can make these people change.
    Mario Balotelli, Italy forward

Balotelli was asked if he considered leaving the pitch but said that was never an option due to the pride he feels when representing his country. "That would have been really too much for a few idiots. And, what's more, it was my second cap," he said.
Fans displaying the banner told Austrian police who asked them to take it down that it wasn't racism but "merely an opinion", Italian news agency Ansa reported.
It's not the first time Balotelli has been the target of racial abuse, having also suffered over the previous two seasons while at Inter Milan, particularly at the hands of a section of Juventus supporters. Inter Milan's Cameroonian forward Samuel Eto'o, meanwhile, was the victim of jeers during his team's recent game at Cagliari.
