The club was founded in 2009 by initiative of energy drink-maker Red Bull GmbH who purchased the playing rights of the fifth division side SSV Markranstädt with the intention of advancing the new club to the top-flight Bundesliga within eight years. Men's professional football is run by the spin-off organization RasenballSport Leipzig GmbH. RB Leipzig plays its home matches at the Red Bull Arena.
In its inaugural season in 2009–10, RB Leipzig dominated the NOFV-Oberliga Süd (V) and was promoted as champions to the Regionalliga Nord (IV).
RB Leipzig won the 2012–13 Regionalliga Nordost season without conceding a single defeat and was promoted to the 3. Liga (III), then finished the 2013–14 3.
Liga season as runner-up and was promoted to the 2. Bundesliga (II) as the first team since the introduction of the 3. Liga to win promotion after only one season.

On 8 May 2016, Leipzig ensured promotion to the Bundesliga for the 2016–17 season.
RB Leipzig became first Bundesliga debutant, since the German reunification, to qualify for a European tournament UEFA Champions league 2017-18.
RB Leipzig are currently 2nd in the Bundesliga where they are likely to finish, in their first year in the top level.

Monaco nearly guaranteed title after rout; Nice top 3, Lyon nab Europa spot

Monaco have all but sealed their first Ligue 1 title since 2000 after beating Lille 4-0 at Stade Louis II.
Radamel Falcao struck his 26th and 27th goals of the season in either half and Bernardo Silva was also on target in the first period, while Junior Alonso's late own goal rounded off the scoring.
Closest rivals Paris Saint-Germain won at St Etienne to stay three points adrift with one game to play, but Monaco have a vastly superior goal difference.
Monaco, knocked out of the Champions League by Juventus in midweek, need only a point from their remaining two games to rubber-stamp their first French crown in 17 years and halt PSG's four-year domestic dominance.

Nice clinches Champions League spot

Nice made sure of their place in Ligue 1's top three and next season's Champions League qualifiers by coming from behind to beat Nancy 3-1.








As well as keeping them in the title race, the result extended Nice's unbeaten run to 10 Ligue 1 games and guaranteed their first top-three finish since 1976.
