I think Prithviraj got a stupendous opening with 'Anwar' and its only because of a disappointing movie did it end up as average. And this came after a terrible movie like 'Thanthonni'. But the way 'Thriller' was released one month after 'Anwar' was a pathetic overkill which badly affected him. There was no proper planning here. He is definitely there and no doubts about that. But malayali audience will take full time to accept him. We can see that audience is ready for that. Now the big question is can Prithviraj mix it up well to hit the finishing line. It's quite interesting to see his graph in 2009 and 2010. Carefully check and you can see. In 2009 he hardly had 1-2 good directors and projects. By 2010 he has the confidence of better directors and better solo standings. Arjunan sakshi, Maanikyakallu, Mumbai Police, Mallu Singh and Cousins in 2011. Now you tell me isn't that even a better mix?

Thanks as always Kiran. Prithviraj is indeed seeing it the hard way to success but what is success without breaking a sweat.

    Elsamma Enna Aankutty
    ----------------------

Lal Jose has been the most successful and promising commercial director in Malayalam Cinema in the last 10 years for the balance he has struck between quality and commecial value of his movies. 'Elsamma Enna Aankutty' is for that reason the 'Most Malayali Movie' that one would have seen in recent times. Sincereity and Genuineness are written all over the presentation of the movie.

What makes the movie stand apart is a wonderful debut by an immensely talented 'Ann Augustine'. In a role which has seen similar clones earlier, Ann excels and is more realistic and humane. 'Elsamma' has a unique characterisation when compared to other such characters before on screen. She is girly, coy, at times romantic, emotional at the same time responsible, stern, protective, reactive. Ann brilliantly and naturally emotes everything in the most confident female debutes in recent times. Ann is the one talent to watch out for. Kunchacko Bobban in almost a second debut resembles Dileep's village boy look in many places but as the movie passes, he adds his own innocence, romance and lots of heart in to 'Palunni'. 'Elsamma' is incomplete without 'Palunni' and that is to the credit of Kunchacko Bobban and the way his character has been written.

Nedumudi Venu, Jagathy are provided usual roles but they rise above the script. Indrajith and Elsamma's sisters also are apt. Music, Re-recording and cinematography are superb. Especially the visuals of Thodupuzha are so captivating that it enhances the movie and creates an identity for the story. The backdrop on which 'Elsamma' has been set, will remain etched in the minds of the viewers. The story and script by Sindhuraj has many cliched moments but its Lal Jose who successfully creates a new identity for the story and the movie at all those places.

Lal Jose is in super form and delivers as expected. We can be sure that real Malayalam Commercial Cinema with quality, is safe in Lal Jose's hands for years to come.

'Elsamma Enna Aankutty' is memorable for its wonderful characters (Elsamma and Palunni), a Female debut in central character that deserves thunderous applause (Ann Augustine), a superb backdrop (Cinematography), apt music and clever direction.

Undoubtedly the 'Most Malayali Movie' in recent times.

    Verdict - 4/5 - Un-adulterated Malayalitham....

PS - Here is sincerely hoping that Sathyan Anthikad has watched this movie and avoids his cliches to torture the poor audience who reach his movies in search of Simple Malayalam Movies.

Thanks Chandru. The break wud kill the mood of the movie. Make sure you start a good 30 mins before where you stopped. Agree with Satyan view. Repetitive and nothing new from him.
