Kailash bets on his next big outing

T V Chandran’s flick will have the actor co-starring with a whole lot of animals and insects!

He had a dream debut as the hero of the Lal Jose flick, Neelathamara, a few years ago. But the roles that came actor Kailash’s way from then on were not as big. However, the actor is all set to make a comeback of sorts with filmmaker T V Chandran’s next, Bhoomiyude Avakashikal, which has him in an offbeat role.
“The film plots the story of Mohanachandran, who runs for his life from the riot-hit Gujarat, and lands up in Kerala where he lives in a secluded house, in the company of insects and animals with whom he begins to build a bond,” says Kailash, adding, “Working with T V Chandran is a different experience altogether. The way his films get acceptance at the national and international levels and the universality of the subjects his films explore have always held me in awe of the master filmmaker.”
Kailash recounts how the shooting of the flick was also different. “We’ve shot animals — including frogs, chameleons and millipedes — in their natural setting. One morning, when Chandran and cameraman Ramachandrababu returned from their morning walk in Nelliyampathi, they brought with them a rare breed of millipede, which they found on their way. If earlier, I was bothered about how comfortable my co-stars are, this time around, all of us on the sets ensured that the animals and insects around had no hassles because of us,” he says. “Also, Chandran ensured that the crew was bare minimum so as not to disturb the animals in their natural settings.”
The film is said to have a scene wherein the hero keenly observes an ant climbing up his hand. “Of course, the ant didn’t come up my hand like we wanted it to,” he says with a chortle. “But the entire crew waited patiently for it do its ‘act’ and a long wait later, it finally rose to our expectations!” So, is this going to be his next big outing after a dream debut? “This is the first time I’m doing a character who goes through a whole gamut of human emotions. Yes, I’ve a lot of hope pinned on
