Atletico linked with bid for 'new Aguero'

Atletico Madrid are close to sealing a deal for Argentine starlet Angel Correa, according to directors at player's current club San Lorenzo

Correa, 19, has scored 12 goals in 61 games for San Lorenzo, and has been likened to former Atletico and current Manchester City star Sergio Aguero.

Colchoneros boss Diego Simeone has been tracking the young forward for months, and will be hoping to get in ahead of other richer clubs who might be interested in taking a player linked recently with Barcelona, Manchester City and Arsenal.

San Lorenzo president Matias Lammens told TYC Sports, in quotes reported by Marca, that he was travelling to Spain next week to finalise talks.

"I am going to Madrid to seal the transfer," Lammens said. "We want to keep a percentage of a future sale."

Correa's performances have helped his club reach the semifinals of this year's Copa Libertadores, where they face Bolivian club Bolivar over two legs in late July.

San Lorenzo vice-president Marcelo Tinelli told Marca that ideally the youngster would remain with them until their Copa campaign is over.

"We hope that Atletico understand how important it is for San Lorenzo to be able to count on a player to try and win the Copa Libertadores for the first time," Tinelli said.

Atletico Madrid have announced the signing of Angel Correa from San Lorenzo - subject to a medical.

The Argentine teenager had previously been linked with a move to Manchester City but, after arriving in the Spanish capital on Monday, he has agreed terms on a five-year contract with the newly crowned Liga champions.

"Atletico Madrid and San Lorenzo have reached an agreement for the transfer of Angel Correa, pending the young Argentine talent passing a medical," read a statement on the Liga side's official website.

"Subsequently, the forward will engage with our club for five seasons."

The 19-year-old Correa, who hails from Lionel Messi's hometown of Rosario, only made his San Lorenzo debut last year but quickly established himself as one of the most exciting young attackers in Argentina.
