കോളിങ് സെഹ്*മത് എന്ന പുസ്തകം ആണ് തൽവാർ എന്ന ഗംഭീര സിനിമയ്ക്കു ശേഷം മേഘ്ന ഗുൽസാർ സംവിധാനം ചെയ്ത റാസിയുടെ കഥക് ആധാരം .

1971ലെ ഇന്ത്യ പാകിസ്ഥാൻ യുദ്ധത്തിന് മുൻപ് ഉള്ള കാലഘട്ടം.

ഒരു കാശ്മീരി പെൺകുട്ടി (സെഹ്*മത് ) ഇന്ത്യയുടെ ചാര വനിതാ ആയി പാകിസ്താനിലെ ഒരു പ്രമുഖ മിലിറ്ററി കുടുംബത്തിൽ വിവാഹിത ആയി പോവുന്നതും രാജ്യത്തിന് വേണ്ടി ചാര പ്രവർത്തി ചെയ്യുന്നതും ആണ് കഥ.

പ്രത്യക്ഷത്തിൽ കുറവുകൾ ഒന്നും ഇല്ല എന്ന് തോന്നിക്കുകയും എന്നാൽ ചില പോരായിമകൾ ഉള്ള സിനിമ എന്ന് പറയാം

ചാരന്മാരുടെ മോഡ്*സ് ഓഫ് ഓപെറേണ്ടി അത്യാവശ്യം ത്രില്ലിംഗ് ആയി തന്നെ കാണിച്ചു തരുന്നുണ്ട് . അതെ സമയം സെക്യൂരിറ്റി ഉള്ള മൂന്ന് മിലിറ്ററി ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥർ ജീവിക്കുന്ന വീട്ടിൽ നടത്തുന്ന ഈ വിധം ഉള്ള ചാര പണിയുടെ ലോജിക് ഇല്ലായിമഒരു കല്ല് കടി ആണ്

ആലിയ ഭട്ട് ആണ് ചിത്രത്തിലെ കേന്ദ്ര കഥാപാത്രം . ശക്*തം ആയ വേഷങ്ങൾ ചെയ്തു ശീലം ഉള്ള ആലിയ ഈ വേഷവും മികച്ചത് ആക്കി. മീർ എന്ന വേഷം ചെയ്ത ജയദീപ് എന്ന നടന്റെ ഉഗ്രൻ പ്രകടനം എടുത്തു പറയണം. മികച്ച യുവ നടൻ ആയ വിക്കി കൗശലിനു താരതമ്യേനെ കാമ്പ് ഇല്ലാത്ത വേഷം ആണ് എങ്കിലും ക്ലൈമാക്സിൽ ആലിയ ആയിട്ടു ഉള്ള കോൺഫ്രൺറ്റേഷൻ രംഗം ഒന്ന് മാത്രം മതി ഈ നടന്റെ മികവ് മനസിലാക്കാൻ .

ഗാനങ്ങൾ കഥയുടെ മൂഡിന് ഒപ്പം നികുന്നവ ആണ് .

തൽവാർ എന്ന അത്യുഗ്രൻ സിനിമ കൊണ്ട് തന്റെ ക്വാളിറ്റി ബാർ മേഘ്ന വളരെ ഉയരത്തിൽ എത്തിച്ചത് കൊണ്ട് കൂടി ആവാം റാസി ആ ലെവൽ ഇമ്പാക്ട് ഉണ്ടാക്കിയോ എന്ന സംശയം ബാക്കി നില്കുന്നത് .

തീർച്ചയായും ഒരു നല്ല ചിത്രം ആണ് റാസി . എന്നാൽ വളരെ ഏറെ ഗ്രിപ്പിങ് ആയ ഒരു മികച്ച സ്പൈ ഇമോഷണൽ ത്രില്ലെർ ആക്കിയെടുക്കാൻ ഉള്ള എല്ലാ സ്കോപ്പ് ഈ കഥ തന്തുവിൽ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു .

Issue based films aren't much explored in malayalam cinema and fewer films that have strayed into the genre often tends to choose a documentry mode . It is where a Jalam stands out .

The story is simple focusing on the life of a young women and her plight to own piece of land in the big bad city , Kochi . Seetha arrives in kochi along with her husband and kid to claim the land offered to them by the government . It was only the begining of their ordeal and during the course of struggle the husband get killed in a accident . Now the women have to fight against all the odds for her survival .

How the system fail the poor in what is a limited desire to have a own roof and how the society make it nearly immpossible for a single hapless mother to push her life forward have been brilliantly depicted in the film . The premise of the story have cliches knocking at all corners but the makers have succeeded in overlapping all those pits making Jalam in to a powerful piece of art.

The plot is a potential tear jerker and there are many instances where it could have stooped to melodrama but the linear narrative is amazingly subtle .

Writing is top class knitting many aspects of serious tone that we see around but not once going overbroad to preach the issues . Direction of padmakumar is surprisingly brilliant carrying a hard hitting theme with much needed maturity .

Priyanka in lead role is superb getting into the grove and not hitting a hyper knote . Support cast of sethu lakshmi , prakash baare and adv of beauitiful are excellent .

There are couple of songs thats been used in background and the one starting with the lyrics "bhoomyile" is fantastic ...super class lyrics

I would recommend this film to be watched not just because it deals with a serious subject but its a good film that is made well and deserves some attention .

FITOOR

Based on charles dickens Great Expectation , Fitoor is supposedly a passionate love story tangled by all the known cliches on backdrops of magical kashmir. The story and characters have it all to make a quintessential romantic classic read but less substance to form a absorbing watch.Abhishek kapoor seems to have tried for a faithful adaptation and that occassionally harm the film as one tends to feel what you see on screen would have best read in a book.
Fitoor works as a endearing love story till the intervel . Especially the childhood romance reflects certain class . But the film looses the steam almost completely in the latter half with Tabu taking the center stage. The flash back episode and other related portion of her character is half baked , though to her credit the actress saves the portrayal from being a mere caricature .
How insignificant the cameo of Ajay devgan looked in the plot shows the trouble the writers had in taking the story forward and eventually it give the film a lacklustre end .

Aditya kapoor is aptly cast . He ooze the mood of the character and does well . Kaif look beautiful and was the right choice for this role . Its just that she does not have it in her to hold your interest as a performer in demanding scenes. Both the child actors were top class .

Bewitchingly beautiful kashmir adds lot of value to the product that the script didn't offer . The place look breath takingly marvellous during seasonal changes in winter and spring (Kudos to DOP) and together with the super soothing melodies of Amit trivedi are the biggest takeaway from Fitoor.

A awesome first half and disappointing follow up make Fitoor a okay film atbest .

EKM Kavitha , sunday second show , status : Balcony -full , FC-70%


Touted as a psychological thriller the film begins with a emotionally disturbed Vasuki not being able to be herself.
The actual story start unfolding only from the interval block and till then its a build up to reach the core plot. The entire first half run on a sequential order involving the lead actors . So a intense scene of brooding Vasuki is immediately followed by a lighter scene of her husband. Now this pattern is strictly followed and after a point it become annoyingly boring . The film here suffers heavily due to lackluster writing . The humor is stale with not even a single scene worth to remember that evoked some genuine fun .

If you can bear the first half then the rest could offer some respite as the film become more engaging. In all fairness the plot is interesting and could have been moulded into better product had it been for a adept film maker. But what you are subjected to is a thriller that lack fizz and average at best.
The proceedings are amateurous and logical loop holes keep popping in . By the time the lame twist arrived i had lost interest and just wanted the movie to end.

Among the cast Mammooty looks super dashing and genuinely fresh . Though his role is largely a second fiddle if not for the last 15 mins or so , the remaining portion ensure that we leave the theater having watched a Mammooty film . Nayantar's vasuki is the pivot around which the entire film revolve and she does manage to carry the film till climax . Her styling gives a unique touch to the role and she pulled up a good show . Dubbing is fresh but strangely enough her malayalam is isn't fluent though she sound at home with tamil dialogues.

Puthiya mugham is not exactly a bad film but as a thriller it didn't serve the purpose.
