The much celebrated and criticized director, Amal Neerad brings you 'Anwar', his third movie as a director. 'Anwar' has an interesting concept placing it the terrorism genre as a cross between movies like 'New York' (which show victimization of the innocent) 'A Wednesday' (which show fight of a common man against terrorism) and Pokkri/Departed (which have the main protagonist change his color in the end). Where 'Anwar' falters big time is the way it has been scripted especially in the first half. First half of the movie basically has very very little to say. Some fight scenes are extended so long that you feel instantly bored watching them. Intro slow motion, chase and fight and a few walks here and there, is all what happens in the first half. When the flashback arrives in the second, the director kills the viewer interest by showing 2 songs back to back. Only after the second song in the second half, does the movie take off and by then more than 70% of viewers would not care what happens or where it goes. After that, the movie rescues itself to become at best, an above average fare. The positive things about 'Anwar' are a good theme, a solid performance by Prthiviraj, supported well by Prakashraj and Lal and few good songs (which were wasted).

Amal Neerad has learnt a few things from his past mistakes but going by the pace at which he is correcting things, it is almost similar to the slow motion sequences that we see in his movies!!! How we wish 'Anwar' had a better script!

Verdict - At best, Above Average.

Thanks Bhat. Njan prateekshathu oru usual Mohanlal hero worship movie anu. Pakshe I felt really happy to see Mohanlal finally play his age as father of an 18 year old. Pinne flash back sequences okke nalla striking arunnu. Film udaneelam oru suspense ondu. Adyathe cliche fights and 2 songs avoid cheyarunnu.

Thanks Rebel. Kananam enthayalum.I want to see it anyways. Its on my list. Karyasthan onnum kanan oru thalparyom ella. Thriller has 2 things which I am interested in - a murder mystery and Prithviraj.

From Padmakumar comes the most impressive commercial movie of Mohanlal seen in recent times. It not only has a striking suspense which is present throughout the movie but its such refreshing to see Mohanlal for once play his age as the father of a 18-19 year old daughter. One would expect, 'Shikkar' to be the usual hero worship movie but with a strong script, the movie is successful in keeping you engaged. Mohanlal is much impressive as Balaraman and a role that allows him to be natural. Ananya, Kailash, Lalu Alex are all good but Samudrakani,Lakshmi Gopalswamy and the 'surprise element at the climax' have all done remarkably well. The way Padmakumar has built some sequences is amazing on screen. The flashback involving Abdulla, when Lal goes to his house, the journey after capture, scene when Abdulla is killed, scene when Lakshmi arrives at Lal's home, the climax fight, Ananya - Kailash engagement fall out. All of these sequences impresses showing the strength of the script. The only negatives are some cliched fights in the beginning, 2 clearly unwanted songs. The director should have shown some guts to avoid these unwanted pieces of cinema on screen. But nevertheless one can surely say that this is best commercial cinema of Lal in recent times. Kudos to Mohanlal for choosing to play his age in this role.

ya Chandru angane entho njanum kettu initially, pakshe enthayalum lal nte mol ayittu thanne anu ananya throughout. Avalde ammede agraham pole anallo avale doctor akkunathu ennu clear ayi parayunnundu. And more than anything makalde role thanne anu so it was very refreshing to see one of the Ms play his correct age.

Confirmed. Lalu Alex's wife says that its Lal's elder brother's daughter. Elder brother got killed in an accident when she was 2 years old and then was taken care by Lal.
Pakshe second half il orphan te issue verumbol ethu Ananya thirichu chodikkunilla. Also, she is completely as an own daughter throughout so this looks like a hole in the script.
