Samsung Galaxy S4 - Complete Specifications
by Rutu Ladage , IndiaTimes | March 15, 2013, 9:30 am IST - Posted 4 hours ago MOBILE

The much awaited next Samsung flagship device the Samsung Galaxy S4 is finally here! The phone, true to rumours, promises most of the expected features and then some more... Take a look at some of the coolest features and specifications below!

The Samsung Galaxy SIV comes with the much talked about 'Smart Scroll'. The art of scrolling through your phone using your eyes or retina scrolling has been mastered by the new flagship device. However, the functionality is restricted to the video feature. Samsung Galaxy SIV can sense when you are watching your video and when your eyes are away from the screen. The minute you look away from the screen, the video pauses and resumes as soon as you look back. The smart scroll feature is also extended to the screen. While earlier Samsung phones came with the tilt to zoom feature, Samsung has taken the feature to a complete new level. Using the Samsung Galaxy SIV, you can tilt your phone screen to scroll up or down. However, that is not where it ends. To prevent scrolling accidentally, the feature works only when your eyes are on the screen. While Samsung has not incorporated the complete retina scrolling or smart scroll, most of the functions incorporate it.

Another unique feature Samsung has incorporated in the phone is the wave software. While the Google Play store does have apps like Wave Control for hover touch technology, Samsung has gone a step ahead and incorporated it in the new device. The new Samsung Galaxy SIV provides you the option to start/stop a song or change tracks just by waving your hand over the phone. There is no need to touch the phone. The feature works for even web pages. Whether Samsung has just added an extended version of the app or created a whole new software is yet to be seen. This new gesture is aptly called the “Air Gesture”.

The Air Gesture feature also lets you hover over mails or messages min your phone. The finger hover options gives you an expand view of the mail/msg. You can now check some contents without actually opening the mail. The feature also works for galleries and photo albums.

Apart from these two features, there are other software additions to the phone too. The Samsung Galaxy SIV has the capability to read your business cards or contacts directly from the pictures and save them to contacts automatically. Although we still do not have the complete clarity on this function, we have doubts as to will Samsung provide selective saving? What if I do not want to save a particular number to the contact list? Imagine having a contact list filled with numbers you do not want and people you contacted just once in your life! We do hope Samsung has provided the options for selective automatic saving.

So much for unique software. Let’s now take a look at some boring old specs. However, Samsung has ensured that nothing about any of the specs remains boring in the Samsung Galaxy SIV!

Samsung Galaxy S4 - Complete Specifications
by Rutu Ladage , IndiaTimes | March 15, 2013, 9:30 am IST - Posted 4 hours ago MOBILE

    contd---

The new device unfortunately does not come with the much-awaited Samsung Youm, the flexible, bendable, unbreakable screen. Instead, the 5-inch AMOLED display comes with the regular Gorilla Glass. The screen comes with a pixel density of 441ppi, and also claims to have the advanced PenTile matrix. Viewing will definitely be a breeze on the new Samsung Galaxy SIV!

As all rumours and leaked specs of AnTuTu hinted at, the Samsung Galaxy SIV will come with the Octa or eight core processor! Yes, you heard it right, the eight core processor! The Samsung Galaxy SIV is powered by the Exynos 5 Octa processor. While 4 of the processors are super-fast, power packed processors, the other four are slower but provide stability. With such powerful processors, we doubt you’ll hear even the whisper of a ‘lag’ in the new Samsung Galaxy SIV! However, before rejoicing, there’s a point to the new processors. Not all Samsung devices will come with the same power packed features. Samsung will be rolling out quad-core Snapdragon chipset. While there’s still no clarity on the markets which will receive this variant, we wonder why the unfairness!

The third specification worth mentioning is the camera. The Samsung Galaxy SIV comes with a 13 MP rear end snapper and a basic 2 MP front camera. However, the cameras too come loaded. Samsung provides dual-shot option, i.e the option to click photos with both cameras together. This not only provides a complete perspective but captures multiple details. Additionally, Samsung has also taken lessons from competitors and the phone comes with some features of the Nokia Lumia series. The phone can convert stationary files to .gif format helping you create a “moving” picture. You can also add audio to your pictures! Another brilliant camera feature is the ability to erase elements from your pictures. Wish photo bombers goodbye with this new feature!

The phone comes in multiple storage options: 16 to 64 GB. While most phone makers are sticking to internal memory and doing away with the microSD card slot, we give Samsung a thumbs up for retaining the good old memory card option too!

Much to our dismay, the Samsung Galaxy SIV resembles the Galaxy SIII in looks and form. The phone comes in 2 colour variants: Frost White and Misty Black. While the back of the phone is slightly different, the oblong candy-bar shape is the same with the patent (or do we say Apple patent) home button nestled at the bottom of the phone. In an improvement we definitely like, the Samsung Galaxy SIV is slimmer, longer and lighter than the SIII. Samsung Galaxy IV weighs just 130 grams. The phone will definitely be a pleasure to hold!

We now come to the most important part. Like we always stress, no phone is worth a penny without a good battery. Has Samsung improved that too? Oh yes, they have! The Samsung Galaxy SIV comes with a 2600 mAh battery to help tide away those battery woes. What we find amusing is the fact that Samsung was able to pack together a sleeker device than the SIII with a more powerful, better battery! But, we’re not complaining!

Samsung has taken inspiration from more than one competitor for the Galaxy SIV. The phone also comes with a new KNOX feature, which is similar to BlackBerry Balance. Samsung knows you like to keep personal and professional lives separate and why should it be different for your phone? The KNOX feature helps in keeping the personal stuff away from the professional mails!

Oh wow! We’re floored and all we want now is the phone in our hands. However, all good things come with a price and wait. And so will your SIV. The Samsung Galaxy SIV is not expected to be available before the second quarter or April end. The wait sure is long!

Looks like Samsung has packed the best of multiple worlds in the phone. And as for competition with Apple on their home turf, Samsung won this round we think!

    Ram is same..
    only difference is the processor..
thats lcd vs AMOLED difference...other thann that both are same resolution/ppi. Z's screen is more brighter and you have to do the brightness to minimum usable level. In my opinion stock rom always eats battery, since i moved to MIUI i'm getting more than 30-40% more battery life (xperia s)...
