Sathyam bro. But second half of the year looks very promising. Malayankunju, Whatever fate of these movies these are not OTT films/ serial like /youtube like films.

Going by posts across recent Malayalam movies thread made me think. 2000-2010 content daridriyam ആയിരുന്നു when our films fared badly. With 2011 and new gen cinema and theaters upgradation our industry bounced back.
Now again a decade later we are facing same dilemma. Other language movies collecting more. This time we have additionally English movies competing also with special thanks to MCU.
We have enough content now with similar plots in feel good films which people say have become boring.

Actually earlier, only selected films got BO successful which belonged to big m, prithviraj, dileep etc.

Now we have great and large pool of actors. There is no superstar culture except big Ms.
Many newcomers have become established thier foothold in the industry.
So if these actors are doing films every now and then, it becomes monotonous and boring because now there is so much content.

As pointed by some members, the multiplex audience who watched content oriented films are now shifted to OTT.

Suppose Priyan ottathilaanu, vaashi, prakashan parakatte was released pre pandemic era/OTT revolution, would they have got moderate BO success?

There are many reasons. I will give point by point

    1) Audience:- After the pandemic no one has the money to spend for movies unless its really worth it. This is happening in whole of India including Bollywood. And for your information even in other languages like in Malayalam only hyped movies collect money. Rest of them bomb. Madhavan film released today collected only 75 lakhs first day in India in spite of positive reviews. Before the pandemic they said it would have definitely collected 5 crores

    2) Poor planning of releases:- This is one problem with Mollywood. They should have released at least one hyped movie/big budget movie in the month of June. The movies which were released last month were all zero expectation films. Then what is the use of saying that Mollywood films are all disasters. These films had they released before would have met with the same fate.

    3) Fresh filmmakers who have zero experience who come out of nowhere to make films. They do not know the ABCD of filmmaking

    4) Youtube short film influence:- These low budget crap films most of them are extended short films.

    5) Too much of pseudo intellect:- The content factor in Mollywood is becoming overrated now. So in the name of content they end up making films which offer neither content nor entertainment

    6) Poor promotions:- Many good films fail to reach the viewers due to lack of promotions

    7) Overdose of feell good/ dull detective films:- First category of films is an overdose of feel good films. Second is some dull detective, crime movies. When a film maker says in an interview that his film is a ' feel good' one I just feel like slapping him

There is also bad time. A film like Kaduva getting embroiled in legal issues. I hope Kaduva releases soon . Else every week we can see extended short films in empty halls

Another reason i could find is horrible songs. Not a single movie except hridayam had good songs. Bheeshmaparvam was okayish with peppy numbers. Baaki ellam kanakka
