4. Mohanlal - At Number 4, is Malayalam's stalwart super star. Continuing his bad run for the second straight year, Mohan lal has not been able to churn out good movies, roles or box office success. The only saving grace has been 'Shikkar' in which he finally (in recent times) dared to play father like role. Apart from Shikkar, all other Lal movies failed to impress. This includes his forte family social comedy like 'Oru Naal Varum' and action roles like 'Kandahaar'. Not even Big B could save the poor run which Lal is having. We hope to see a better 2011 for Lal with 'China Town', 'Casanova' and 'Cousins' in the pipeline

3. Prithviraj - At Number 3, is the 'almost there but not yet' star Prithviraj. The young star started 2010 with a blockbuster success of 'Pokkiriraja' in the first half of the year which he shared with Mammotty. A lot was riding on his 'Anwar' and 'Thriller'. They were expected to be his solo hits and add sureity to his proclaimed stardom. But that did not happen. 'Anwar' ended up as average with a huge initial and 'Thriller' ended up below average grosser. Prithviraj is neither selecting scripts with greater care nor is he planning his releases. Also, he is being typecasted as an action hero, atleast in 2010. 'Arjunan Sakshi' opens in Jan and is a good bet for him. Hope it breaks the jinx!!

2. Dileep - At number 3 is the luckiest star of Malayalam, Dileep. Finally he has decided that he is going to stay put in what has been his forte and what generally the audience likes to see him - Baffoon Comedy, Toilet Humour, Logicless Fare - whatever you want to call it, it seems to work for him and hence not willing to experiement any longer, Dileep returns to his home ground and finds success indeed. 'Body Gaurd' seems to have remained scritly average and 'Agathan' turned out poor. What awaited him in the second half of the year was 'Karyasthan' which turned out to be a sure success. 'Marykkundoru Kunjaadu' which carries good response ends his year. With 2 Multi starrers lined up in 'Christian Brothers' and 'China Town', Dileep is trying to mix it up and hope his luck prevails in 2011.

1. Mammotty - Amitabh Bachchan was a super star like no other in Bollywood, until start of the 90s. But when age caught up with him and movies flopped continously, he took a hiatus from Bollywood. Later he came on and under the pressure of financial liabilities, he re-invented himself according to the changing times,taking bolder steps and opening up like not until then. Big B rewrote the history books of his success once again,this time for a new generation. The same story holds good for Mammotty.

There was a time when Mammotty had hit rock bottom during the start of 2000s. The way he has opened up and re-invented himself is amazing. The stupendous success of Mammotty this year is not just sheer luck but smart choice and extreme hard work. From feeling safe to come at the Interval in the Commercial Blockbuster 'Pokkiriraja' in which the young star Prithviraj also stars, to doing a classy commercial movie in 'Pranchiyettan and the Saint', to still believing in New Directors for 'Best Actor' success has kissed his feet for the interesting mix he has maintained. Shows a man who is writing his own destiny!! Mammotty seems no longer like a man who beleives that what he deserves will come to him, instead he is writing his own course in terms of what he chooses. Right now , he is the Man with the Midas Touch. Way to go Mammotty!!

Jayasurya has done much much better than prithviraj....considering commercial success both are in the same ship....so not fair to give more mark to Prithviraj than to Jayasurya.

solo allenkil polum randuperkkum hits ulla year alle 2010....

Thanks Club Ans. Kunchako has done quite well but all his movies have been female oriented subjects. Elsamma, Mummy n Me or Sakudumbam Shyamala (almost typecasting him). Four Friends was a disaster as well. Hence, excluded him. Probably only someone who closley deserved 5th Spot was Jayasurya but lack of solo standing made him to be omitted.

Thanks Critic....Jayasoorya has done well in Nallavan even if that was a flop.

Thanks Nithin. Last year was good for Jayasurya. This year the only countable success was HH in which he was quite sidelined by Indrajith and Jayaram. Cocktail was excellent in terms of his choice of role and execution but did not come as a gauranteed success. Even that too was not solo.

mmm bhai. Mammotty has shown what needs to be done. I mean even dileep is trying to ape him to get the right mix. Lal will have his time and hope he will bounce back strongly but he usually leaves it for fate and friends to bring good things to him. Hope luck shines on his side one more time soon.

cocktail was a gud movie..character selectionilum he is much better than dileep n prithvi....

Thanks as always Shivetta. Jayasurya kku solo standing almost nil ayathu kondanu ozhivakkiyathu. His only success is HH in which he was sidelined by the other heroes to be true. Cocktail was excellent choice or role and execution, pakshe oru gauranteed success ayilla. Solo standing there ellathe poyathu kondanu industry equations il edanjathu in Top 5. He had a better 2009 whan compared this and he was in the list that time around. Hope he has a better 2011.
